Based on the document, the Aztec people lived an organized life full of riches and splendor. The immense crowding of the market and the order used in running it shows that order organized the Aztec people in how they operated. The narrator illustrates that ‘every species of merchandise had a separate spot for its sale’ (Díaz del Castillo, 1968). Further, there were various divisions through which the Aztecs presented gold, jewels, fowls, and every other product to the market for sale. Above all, not only were their products of immense wealth, but there were also good police and order that dominated the market.
Socially, the Aztec people interacted with each other since they understood the only way they would trade their products was by exchanging with others. That is why at the marketplace, there were so many people ready to engage in business. As explained, the grandees escorting the narrator and the Spaniards were involved in explaining all their eyes could see (Díaz del Castillo, 1968). According to their custom, the Aztec people dressed their monarch in a sumptuous manner that entailed a species of half boot whose soles were gold and richly set with jewels’ (Díaz del Castillo, 1968). Politically, there was a strict hierarchy system in the society. Unless anyone belonged to the suite of Motecusuma and his four cousins, every other community member had no eye contact with him.
The document reveals the Spaniards, like Castillo, had a misconception of the Aztec society. Since they came from a place of European civilization, they might have considered any other place that did not have their background had no development. That is what makes the Spaniards look at the Aztec people in awe over how they lived and what they have accomplished.
