Introduction
Numerous organizations and institutions are committed to enhancing global health. The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF are two of the most well-known organizations. Many underdeveloped nations, like Haiti, have improved their health thanks to these two organizations and countless others.
Organizational Backgrounds
The World Health Organization is a UN department specializing in global public health. The WHO has been actively involved in helping individuals in need receive medical attention and supplies in Haiti (World Health Organization, 2023). They have also implemented initiatives to help communities learn more about health issues, give them power, and help those who need it.
Another organization committed to enhancing Haitian citizens’ health is UNICEF. UNICEF is a United Nations organization that focuses on the welfare of women and children. It was established in 1946 (United Nations, 2023). In Haiti, UNICEF has been involved in delivering primary healthcare and immunizations. Additionally, they have made clean water and sanitary facilities accessible, which has aided in limiting the spread of contagious illnesses.
Haiti Health Programs
The WHO and UNICEF’s programs and policies have aided in the improvement of Haiti’s health. Access to basic healthcare services has been one of their strategies. This involves offering sanitary conditions, fresh water, and medical supplies ( Mitchell, 2018). Public education on health issues, such as diet and hygiene, has been another tactic. Programs have also been implemented to strengthen local communities and stop the spread of infectious illnesses.
The Vax Haiti program is one example of a project that the WHO and UNICEF have undertaken. This initiative aims to meet the health requirements of vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and young children. As part of the program, vaccinations are given to prevent illnesses like polio and measles (Global VAX, 2022). This program has improved Haitians’ general health and helped to slow the development of infectious illnesses.
