Introduction
Climate change is an outgoing global concern as its impacts are felt worldwide. Global climate change refers to the long-term fluctuations in weather patterns and temperature due to anthropogenic forces and natural variability (Dietz et al., 2020). As temperatures rise exponentially, snow and glaciers melt, leading to a rise in sea levels.
Discussion
Changing rainfall patterns lead to drought, famine, and hunger in most parts of the world. Although the world has experienced other pressing problems, such as disease outbreaks and cyberbullying, global climate change remains humanity’s major problem. Global climate change is humanity’s most pressing problem because it is cumulative, and policies to reduce it are not easily implemented due to political barriers.
Solving a problem begins by analyzing the causes and strategizing the means of eliminating the causes. The largest contributor to climate change is human activities, including burning fossil fuels to generate energy. As the world industrializes to meet the needs of the growing population, the emission of greenhouse gases increases, and the ozone layer is depleted.
Developed nations are the key contributors to climate change, but the impacts are felt more in developing nations. If the nations collaborated to implement climate protection policies, the climate change problems would have been solved (Wamsler, Christine, et al., 140). As governments strive to increase economic prospects, they trivialize climate change policies, which consequently jeopardize the fight against climate change.
Conclusion
Environmentalists worldwide have discussed climate change, its impacts, and ways to reduce it. There has been no shortage of universal policies to control climate change, but implementing the policies proves to be problematic. For example, despite ratifying the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992, the recommendations are yet to be implemented (Piggott-McKellar, Annah et al., 381). As nations delay implementing the policies, the problems related to climate change accumulate and become more complicated by the day. Unless all countries in the world collaborate to implement climate change policies and fight climate change, life on Earth is threatened.
