Introduction
The flipped classroom is a new, innovative concept that completely changes the learning process. The main feature of this approach is that all theoretical material, in the form of lectures or presentations, should be studied by students at home. Thus, a learning process concentrates on the practice of the material in small groups. The concept of a flipped classroom emphasizes that this increases efficiency and involvement in the learning process.
Key Benefits of the Flipped Classroom
Active Participation
As a facilitator of the learning process, I especially appeal to the idea that by reducing the time for theoretical material, children can implement it in practice. This plays a vital role and gives a significant advantage to such an educational innovation as the flipped classroom since, in modern conditions, too little time is devoted to this aspect. Research stated that “it makes room for active student participation and encourages the development of an interactive learning environment” (Turan & Akdag-Cimen, 2020, p. 510). Due to the extensive focus on the lecture material, students are deprived of the opportunity to practice their knowledge, get answers to questions, and fully engage in the learning process.
Flexibility
Because educators have more time to teach specific knowledge, the next advantage of the flipped classroom is intentional content. Because most of the theoretical material will be studied by students independently, teachers can determine what and how will be studied in the lesson (Strelan et al., 2020). That is, which aspects of the topic should be emphasized and which activities will best influence the memorization process. In other words, educators have more opportunities and options for students’ learning outcomes.
Potential Pitfalls
Concerns About Implementation
Even though the positive factors that flipped learning has in the modern classroom, it raises several concerns. First, the main idea of this approach is that students will study the lecture material on their own so that more time is devoted to the practical side. Education providers should record lectures and presentations and provide them with this video (Tang et al., 2020). However, not all students may have the opportunity to participate in this type of education, as they may not have the necessary technological equipment. On the other hand, this concern can be solved by providing children with access to school computers to view the necessary material.
Student Readiness in Flipped Classrooms
Another concern that may children’s children’s self-education is laziness and secrecy. Hence, some students may not view the material provided due to lack desire, motivation, or laziness. This rejection of independent comprehension material can negatively affect the effectiveness and productivity of the learning process. In addition, it can reduce group work results due to individuals who did not prepare in advance without listening to the material.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the flipped classroom concept is particularly interesting for studying and implementing it in the learning process. Moving away from the traditional provision of lecture material during the lesson and transferring it to the level of independent analysis provides many opportunities. One of them is a greater concentration on practice and intentional content. On the other hand, the flipped classroom can cause concerns such as a lack of technology and laziness on the part of students.
