Introduction
Cloud computing’s increasing popularity over the last few years has provided companies with many new opportunities and obstacles. This approach helps shift the workload and make the system more accessible and flexible for businesses; hence, additional hardware and software are unnecessary.
Discussion
Among the main advantages of cloud computing is self-service with direct access, regardless of the user’s location through internet devices (Laudon & Laudon, 2019). Benefits also include the flexibility of the operations and cloud services, allowing organizations to manage the adjustment on demand (Srivastava & Khan, 2018). These are the features that provide benefits for the companies.
Some peculiarities may be both advantages and disadvantages. For instance, measured service using the pay-per-use method opens new opportunities for smaller businesses because they do not need their data centers. However, the same pattern is costly for larger companies with more than 10,000 employees, such as Netflix or FedEx (Laudon & Laudon, 2019). Additionally, the risk of “runaway costs” exists, so having their own IT infrastructure is cheaper and more reliable.
The problem of cybersecurity is also crucial among IT structures. While cloud computing ensures data encryption, access controls, and security intelligence, there is still the possibility of outages and data breaches (Srivastava & Khan, 2018). For instance, the problem with software tool provider Atlassian Capital One and Amazon Alexa personal assistant through Amazon Web Services Direct Connect in 2018 (Laudon & Laudon, 2019). There are many new cloud services and platforms; hence, companies should have a backup copy of their data for security measures.
Conclusion
Thus, there are many new opportunities for businesses using cloud computing. Still, it also includes risks that the companies should be aware of to provide the best service and security for their customers.
