The article represents a reflection on the drinking problem as well as its social and nursing implications. According to the primary assumptions, it was offered to investigate a connection between shyness and alcohol-addictive problem motives. The tendencies of drinking ill-use were verified every six-month period during two years. The study targeted young citizens since it is acknowledged that alcohol problem is usually associated with social integration of teenagers and students. Moreover, the people, who spend much time in academic environments, are quite vulnerable to collective influences and deviant trends. Due to the results of the study, reticence does not account for social drinking. Consequently, it may be claimed that shy people have no natural disposition to alcoholism. Nevertheless, the research work proved that calm individuals are susceptible to experiencing discomfort if they stay in the company of friends, who drink alcohol. Since reticent youngsters avoid standing out, they are likely to embrace typical behaviors. Therefore, the work proved that shyness stipulates imitative conducts. As a result, quiet individuals tend to have more drinking motives (Young, DiBello, Traylor, Zvolensky and Neighbors 1749).
Due the psychologists’ suggestions, shyness is also correlated with addictions since introverts experience more social challenges than extroverts. Self-conscious people usually face much pressure, for they do not comply with the expectancies of surrounding community. Drinking appears in their lives as a universal method of overcoming the problems. Such individuals consider that alcohol makes them confident and outgoing. However, this faulty assumption leads to subsequent social disorders and abuses.
The issue of drinking among introverted people has many nursing implications. Primarily, the strategies for addictions eradication have to be developed by the policy makers and incorporated into the nursing educational programs. Therefore, every professional nurse must possess some consistent knowledge of the damaging consequences of drinking. Besides, it is crucial for the medical worker to provide the introverted patients with effective psychological counseling so that they could learn how to cope with their daily problems without drinking. Second, nursing profession predetermines treatment provisions proficiency. Usually, the individuals with addiction-related disorders deny the sources of their problems. Consequently, they are likely to refuse medical treatment. Thus, it is a crucial challenge for a nurse to persuade a patient of the necessity to engage in recovery programs so that to ensure their mental well-being and stability. To sum it up, drinking-related disorders refer to temperament peculiarities as well as social characteristics and require some proficient nursing elaboration.
