Introduction
It is not a secret, that urbanization is taking place as a process all over the world today and especially in America. It means that people tend to go to the large cities for a seemingly better fortune there. Despite this vastly developed tendency, some people of today are still willing to live in small towns or even countries and to be happy with their lives. No wonder, there are some pros and cons of living in a city or in the country, so each one should choose himself what is closer to his character and to his nature. It is interesting, that there are some similarities, like for example, going to work every day as living in either a city or a country does not mean that one will not work, and differences between living in a small town and living in a large city, like the difference in a life style, difference in activities one might perform. But is it a dream or a nightmare to live in a big city in general and in an American city in particular.
Main body
First thing, which occurs when thinking about the city and the country life is that that the life in both is pretty much the same as people have the same basic necessities in the lives and the values people praise are also generally excepted values. One of the most obvious similarities is that in both places, you live in a home and travel on roads, as it is a daily necessity, for people, which can not be abolished by means of moving either to a big city or a country. People go to their works day in day out to receive a positive supply of energy, or just to earn one’s living, the work objective depends on each person’s needs. Also, the city life just like a small town life requires you to work in order to succeed in the life and be realized in the occupation. It is widely known, that the feeling of employment makes one feel better and more needed and thus more happy with his or her life. Moreover both large cities and small towns have stores where items can be purchased. It goes without saying, that the cities and the countries sell commodities to people, supplying them with everything needed. And of course, the products, sold in the markets, supermarkets and department stores are the same. Likewise the American cities, they are the same as elsewhere, offering employment, goods etc.
However, the are some differences found between living in the large cities and the countries, namely, the intensive life in the city, compared to the calm one in the country, the more individualistic life style, compared to a life, where everybody know each other, the highly developed road and factories infrastructure, compared to the healthy environment.
Considering the life tempo, it is clear that the one found in the big cities is very tense and intensive while, the tempo in the country is relatively calm and regular. So, while choosing where to live one should think of which tempo he would choose. Moreover, not everyone manages to stand the city pressure where everything is so dynamic and fast changing. The people flow is very big and one might get lost between them. It brings one more matter out, namely, the individualistic-oriented life style in the city and more social-oriented life style in the country. Seeing so many people during the day, one might get tired of seeing them. Not that the people in cities do not like each other, it is so common to be around them during the day, to see millions of people, that one wants to have a rest from seeing people. This is the main reason, why people, living in megalopolises do not pay much attention to the people, surrounding them. They are less concerned with each other’s problems and trust each other not so much as people, living close to each other, knowing each other for all their lives. Much of the time, people in cities have a very individualistic attitude, whereas people in small towns tend to be much friendlier.
Next thing, which comes to my mind, is the offer of different activities which are not available either in town or city. Of course, some of the activities are still more or less similar, but in general, the city activities differ from those in the town and vice versa. The city activities include night clubs, cinemas, restaurants, while the town activities include more plain entertainments, for example cafes instead of lavish restaurants.
Then, there are much more people in megalopolises than there are in a small towns, making the cities troublesome in comparison with the countries. Firstly, there are a way more cars, making the big cities considerably noisier than small towns, which are normally peaceful and quiet. Also, the big cities are more polluted with car exhaust fumes and with much more industry leftovers, while the countries are not. People living in large cities must also deal with much more crimes than do people living in small towns. So, it is a matter of character to choose what is suitable with one.
Conclusion
Inferring, I would like to say, that though there is a tendency to move in to the big cities or the so-called megalopolises, nowadays, some people are still trying to maintain their calm life, living in small towns or countries. The life in both has advantages and disadvantages and it is upon each and every person to choose where to live either in the city or town as one might or might not stand the pressure the city gives, much noise and finally the great competitiveness. It needs to be mentioned that there are many similarities between the life in the town and in the city as people’s basic needs are pretty much the same: work, realization in the life, basic necessities the same things for each part of the world and America in particular. Though there are some considerable differences like the life tempo (either dynamic or regular), the life style (either individualistic-oriented or social-oriented), the environment (either polluted or clean) So, as it is clearly seen, rural life and urban life both in the world and in America are similar in some ways, but very different in others, proposing their on pros and cons. And it is a matter of personality which life to consider a dream or a nightmare.
