The history of the United States is a tale of people from diverse ethnicity who jointly form the United States of America. America is one of the countries that have such a great history since independence. The history covers the country’s political, social, and economic advancement from the 1900s up to the cold war. The metamorphism undergone has influenced the country both positively and negatively.
In the 1900s, American achieved a rise in its economic level; there was an increase in the country’s wealthy class. The number increased to 10 % from 1 % – the 10 % owing 90 % of the total country assets than before 1900 with only 1 % of the wealthy controlling 20 %. Famous political parties influenced this economic rise, but the Republican Party took over and controlled significant businesses. During the civil war, the Republican Party supported most businesses giving it the power to control politics; out of 16 elections held, the Republicans won 12. American businesses such as Texaco (1903), were cushioned from their overseas rivalry through high tariffs and customs duties. The laws established a new protective industrial order; Spencer social Darwinism encouraged government support without altering the country’s economy.
Darwinism’s specs lost meaning among most American industrial workers. The workers were exploited with complex jobs in the industries and given little annual pay in return, forcing them to live below the poverty level. Families of the poorly paid workers were converted to market laborers to make up for the low income. Trained laborers were forced to do non-professional duties because of massive production and an increase in mechanization level in the country. The urban population exploded; cities failed to support the growing populations, leading to the emergence of slums. Industries such as U.S. steel, faced the worst strikes from workers looking for better working conditions and improved wages. The strike went on but the formed unions were weak and faded away.
The civil war led to the fall of empires and the development of a new nations and bred fear of what would happen in the future years. The war brought a significant change to the United States and realized their military power’s potential and strength. The war caused sorrow and fueled the rise of the Second World War; all kinds of conflicts emerged right from national, cultural, and religious across the whole globe. Since 1900 there has been a remarkable improvement in the economy due to industrialization growth of the country. The political structure has improved, including the built-up of their military structure due to the civil war.
In conclusion, since 1900 America has undergone chronological events including emergent of social class which led to the control of the countries politics by the capitalist. There was rapid industrial growth leading to exploitation of workers which led to strikes. The war led to fall and rise of many nations which later became global superpowers. It also compelled American to strengthen its military wing for future defense.
