For the past years, minority individuals in the U.S suffered from segregation in all fields including schools. For instance, the Negros had trouble in the past years when it came to academic issues. The experienced problems led to retardation of educational and intellectual development of Negro children. To solve this, APA was forced to advocate for the abolition of segregation processes that existed.
Most whites also in the past cherished looking down upon the blacks in the society. For instance, apart from the blacks being segregated, the administration of medication to them was so poor compared to that offered to the whites.
However, the chipping in of the APA on matters concerning racism, xenophobia and racial bigotry led to the abolition of unfair treatments to the blacks in early 2001. In addition, currently APA inputs much effort in reducing the rate of discriminations experienced in churches, schools, workplace and the community. It has also laid some foundations to aid in eradicating the segregation issues that may be experienced in the future. (APA Online, 2009).
