To a great extent, a building is a form of real estate that assists in revenue generation either through selling to another individual or renting it. On the other hand, revenue refers to the cash inflow from financing, investing, and operating activities. The Surette town management must decide to convert the abandoned building into a community center. The action enables restoration and lack of wastage of the property resources that are useful to society. In addition, the two primary objectives of the municipality, including collecting revenue to balance its budget and improving the quality of life for its residents, would be met. Concerning revenue generation, a community center would act as an area whereby individuals conduct diverse undertakings in various industries, such as trade and commerce (Pescador & Caelian, 2022). By renting the place to investors interested in recreational activities, the city would be able to acquire cash. At the same time, the presence of multiple activities, including educational seminars, sports, social interactions, cultural practices, and workshops, aids in enhancing the personality and standards of the people.
The town management team should effectively utilize the opportunity provided by the sponsors to fund the construction of the community center in exchange for the building’s naming rights. Therefore, the municipality would continue owning the property while generating revenue. The decision to convert the building into office space and sell or rent it indicates that most community members would not wholly enjoy the societal services to improve their living standards. Compared to a reserved part of a building, a community center extensively facilitates interaction and communication among a group of people, enabling them to develop more relationship bonds (Pescador & Caelian, 2022). People residing in Surette town can showcase their talents to the world since the social center would act as the marketing arena for potential donors. The idea of converting the deserted house into office space assists revenue generation but does not help enhance town residents’ quality of life.
The town management must deploy utilitarianism theory, a type of moral philosophy that advocates for actions fostering general happiness or satisfaction to the people. When directed toward making economic and social decisions, a utilitarian approach aims for the general betterment of the community. The initial end goal of collecting more revenue from the social center to balance the town budget would be finally used to finance crucial activities, such as the construction of hospitals and schools. Therefore, the residents would have an improved quality of life as they would receive enhanced services from the municipality. There are several ways in which a community center assists in making money, including fundraising events, grants, memberships, donations, renting out spaces for events, and offering classes (Pescador & Caelian, 2022). Some of the noticeable merits of the community center include promoting exercise by offering an affordable and convenient place for fitness activities and keeping adolescents safe from engaging in criminal activities. In addition, social centers help in boosting the town’s economy by creating new jobs and developing sports tourism destinations.
The conversion of the deserted building into a community center creates the availability of meeting places away from churches and restaurants. The social bonds established in such centers assist in building inclusive, safe, and strong members, engender volunteerism, enhance civil pride, and promote interaction (Pescador & Caelian, 2022). The quality of life of city residents improves as they participate in advice and support services, training courses, homework clubs, and exercise classes.
