Modern trends in world development are associated with cardinal changes in the socio-political landscape, which marked a new era in the development of the world, a distinctive feature of which is the processes of globalization, which are acquiring a planetary scale at the turn of the millennium. The world is showing a growing tendency towards ever closer interaction of territories, economies, political, cultural, spiritual, and other activities. This fully applies to migration processes.
Successful integration of refugees into society has always been one of Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) core goals. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has hindered the process of accepting refugees significantly in the last two years. Thus, the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) was introduced to provide pre-departure health services to manage the risks of COVID-19 spread. According to the Government of Canada’s official website (2021), this program targets specifically resettled refugees who can be transferred to Canada despite the border restrictions currently in place due to the pandemic. Moreover, additional measures were also implemented as a means of temporary public policies. For example, the Immigration Medical Exams program is aimed to provide medical assessment for low-risk protected refugees. Additionally, now refugees can ask for asylum in Canada via a special digital service. These measures seem quite effective, as they both allow the potential refugees to safely reach the protection they need without putting at risk the citizens of Canada. The pandemic has become a threat to every country in the world, thus it was indeed necessary to provide additional support to the medical services for refugees.
Canadian government worked hard in 2020 and 2021 to offer immigration services for people all around the world. The Immigration.Ca website (2021) reports that “Canada welcomed 46,315 new immigrants in October, putting it well on track to meet its 2021 goal of 401,000 newcomers” (para. 1). The Express Entry immigration system has proven to be highly effective for evaluating potential immigrants, allowing the people to perform self-assessment for immigration eligibility. Moreover, the TR to PR Pathway program that helped temporary immigrants find their new places in Canada is another big step towards a well-defined immigration system. It can be concluded that Canada has developed an effective immigration support framework, which is proven by the fact that the country has attracted so many newcomers this year.
