Analysis of Cardiac Nursing Role

Summary

Nursing professionalism is a holistic concept that provides healthcare services to community members to mitigate health disparities. Nursing roles require nurses to practice positive ethics that will enhance proper behavioral practice within the healthcare system, which is gained through an educational experience. In this case, the preferred Master’s prepared professional nursing role of choice that will be useful in my future career will be dealing with cardiac nurse operations to assist most people within our contemporary society after completing the RN and BSN nursing program. A high level of education results in cardiac nurses’ roles being vital within the healthcare working setting, such as assisting patients in heart treatment, surgical rooms, and ICU. This implies that cardiac nurses typically provide effective measures that mitigate heart disease and other related cardiovascular conditions, thus minimizing the threat across the globe.

Cardiac Nurse

The other name of cardiac nurses, popularly known as cardiovascular or cardiology nurses, are registered nurses specializing in assisting individuals’ cardiovascular systems hence reducing the problems related to heart diseases (Jepma et al., 2021). The specific profession engages patients with heart problems by allowing the medical practitioners to follow effective treatment plans that the cardiologist assigns and monitor patients’ progress while administering the medication to assist them in healing effectively. My understanding of cardiac nurse operations varies within various health systems in our contemporary society contrasting based on the work setting of the nurses (Farquharson et al., 2021). This indicates how cardiac nursing operation is an effective professional role that may be useful for me in the future.

The Description of the Setting and Practice of Cardiac Nurses

Since the description of cardiovascular nursing operations varies in different work settings, the medical students must undertake a key analysis to understand various conditions and operations within the healthcare sector to provide quality healthcare services. In this case, the cardiovascular nursing role in our contemporary society may be employed in physician’s offices, physical therapy facilities, and hospital systems to cater to the increase in heart disease issues among patients. This implies that most cardiovascular nurses practice their roles in general ICUs and cardiac or medical intensive care units (Farquharson et al., 2021). In this setting, the cardiovascular nurses’ role is to provide vital care for the patients. Specifically, they offer critical patient care for individuals who suffer myocardial infarctions or engage in open-heart surgery. Furthermore, their role in the work setting is to give medical care to sick people who experience life-threatening arrhythmia.

Another healthcare setting where cardiac nurse operation is typically required is in the surgery room. In this specific setting, the medical professionals, explicitly the cardiovascular nurses, usually provide healthcare to patients that have problems with the blood vessels, open-heart surgery, and engage in heart transplanting and valve replacement. Nonetheless, working among a team of therapists during the rehabilitation of patients that have experienced serious surgery related to cardiac illness is another option for cardiac nursing roles to be showcased. In this context, rehabilitation patients usually spend more time with cardiac therapists to acquire awareness and effective educating tips concerning their health outcomes (Farquharson et al., 2021). During the work setting, cardiovascular nurses provide their patient’s guidance related to medications, stress management, smoking cessation, and diet management. Besides, some cardiovascular nurses typically get employed in different hospitals, which act as their working location with telemetry. Telemetry in this context refers to smaller gadget units that are portable that monitor the heart rhythm of the patient. It requires nurses to provide efficient healthcare, specifically during emergencies. Notably, professional doctors who are popularly known as cardiologists supervise cardiovascular nurses to develop their skills in different work settings, thus enhancing quality care to the patients. This implies that cardiovascular nurses are accountable to the cardiologist who delegates guidance and skills, including defibrillation, administering medication using IV drips, and monitoring electrocardiograms.

Primary Roles of Cardiac Nurses

Cardiac nurses in our society play a vital role in providing effective healthcare treatment, specifically for those who experience heart-related problems. Cardiac nurses usually provide effective measures that mitigate heart disease and other related cardiovascular conditions posing a threat within the U.S and across the globe. Other vital roles and responsibilities played by cardiac nurses within the healthcare system are administering electrocardiograms and stress tests to many patients suspected to be experiencing heart blockages, murmurs, and other cardiovascular-related complications (Jepma et al., 2021). Finally, they deliver individual reports concerning the Healthcare status and provide effective responsibility to the surgeons and doctors within the medical institutions while communicating with the family and friends of the sick on the whereabouts of the patient to minimize anxiousness.

Educational Requirement of Cardiac Nursing

The professional nurse in the current society requires certification. The primary educational requirement certificate for cardiac nurses is that an individual should have a Bachelor of Science degree, associate degree, or a registered nursing license. It allows them to work in critical areas and conditions, such as the intensive care unit. However, new graduates are usually not hired directly to the critical care division but instead given time to develop their skills and knowledge to deal appropriately with a patient’s heart and provide effective treatment (Jepma et al., 2021). Cardiac care maintains its certification or license through engaging in exams and completing professional activities within the medical school. Cardiac nurses are also required to take and read electrocardiograms, specifically when working in critical care conditions to identify how to draw arterial blood and venous. This approach contributes to most cardiac nurses maintaining their licenses in the current context.

Some of the interprofessional team that the professional cardiac team interacts with includes doctors working in surgical rooms, patients, and other hospital providers. For instance, during surgical operations, professional nurses could communicate with surgical doctors to provide appropriate medical guidelines. The patients also interact with professional medicals. This results in effective communication and collaboration that enhances positive understanding and efficient medical diagnosis of the patient. Similarly, the ability of nurses to write when examining the patients’ issues is vital in this case. The role of writing has assisted the doctor in keeping a record of the patient while allowing them to send the patient to other medical personnel for medical review and diagnosis analysis. This makes work easier due to effective medical communication from one expert to the other in the health context. The skill of writing is usually used when giving out appropriate dosage and sending the patient to other medical practitioners for checkups, such as surgical rooms.

The skills obtained in medical schools and internship at various hospital settings allows cardiac nurses to make appropriate decisions. They achieve this by following the guidelines of biomedical ethics and other health strategies (Arjunan & D’Souza, 2021). Both critical thinking and clinical reasoning result in nurses making appropriate medical judgments because they collect patients’ cues, process the data, come to an understanding of a patient issue, plan and implement interventions, evaluate outcomes, and reflect on the best approach that can be used while learning from the process. Patients’ description influences clinical decisions because different patients require different forms of treatment and medical diagnosis, making cardiac nurses think critically about the best approach that can be used in unique concepts. The positive impact of such a clinical decision is that it contributes to the patient acquiring the best medical treatment, while the negative part is that the doctor may provide a negative decision that may not be related to the patients’ issue.

The Scope of Practice

Cardiac nurses are registered caregivers that have completed four years of bachelor’s degree or two-year associate degree and passed the national licensing exam. This particular training strategy provides them with a vast scope of knowledge to provide effective cardiovascular care. The education undertaken at the medical school of nursing gives nurses the priority to practicing quality healthcare provision among patients (Jepma et al., 2021). During their practices, cardiac nurses use distinct types of technology, such as the automated five pumps that control the dosage and read given to the patient (Madder et al., 2018). Cardiac nurses also use portable monitors and smart beds.

Nurse Theorist

The nursing theorist related to this specific professional nurse concept is the model of human beings by Rogers, which analyzes how nursing concepts can be practiced within the healthcare system and maintained effectively (Shefer et al., 2017). The concept may be useful to assist cardiovascular nurses in their daily operations of dealing with the cardiovascular system of patients in different parts of the world.

Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)

The professional nurses in this case, can utilize the EBP paradigm of examining the patient’s heart. They achieve this by asking relevant questions from the patient to formulate answerable clinical questions concerning the patient. This allows them to acquire relevant evidence to answer questions regarding the patients’ issues. Besides, they engage in determining whether or not the evidence attained from the patient, specifically concerning their problem, can be used in the final EBP analysis to provide quality medication. In this context, the cardiac nurses will participate in a systematic review type of research that carefully synthesizes research evidence premeditated to answer engrossed clinical questions provided by the patient.

Comparison of the Current Salary Range of Cardiac Nurses

The report provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the U.S suggests that registered nurses in Texas earn an average between $97,966 and $167,692 in 2022 (INDEED, 2022). On the other hand, cardiac nurses in North Dakota usually earn $221,066 per year (Rao et al., 2019). This is different from Oklahoma, where cardiac nurses earn about $147,275 per year, which is low (Zippia, 2022). Despite the statistical information on cardiac nursing salary indicating a variation in salary amount in USA states, the profession has a huge amount of money that medical students should embrace and consider.

Stress Management among the Cardiac Nurses

The staff members must look for alternatives to manage stress. In cardiac nursing, the majority of the employees have been experiencing acute stress due to working long hours in hectic environments while caring for numerous patients (Kellogg et al., 2018). In this context, cardiac nurses should identify and track personal stressors to overcome the tension that may affect health outcomes. Another concept that can affect cardiac nursing is taking time to recharge. Finally, the nurses should frequently engage in exercise and maintain a healthy diet which will assist in conducting stress-related issues at the workplace.

Summary and Reflection Conclusion

Cardiac nursing is my selected professional nursing role, which will be my future career interest after completing the RN to BSN nursing program. This is why I gained interest in undertaking the nursing role of cardiac nursing to mitigate the rapidly increasing issue of heart disease causing numerous deaths. From my research, I noted that a Bachelor of Science degree, associate degree, or a registered nursing license is the main requirement for medical students to acquire the work, which I still strive to achieve. I will continue pursuing this specific role. This is because of the academic training that will allow me to manage any ethical issues and stress during work while providing effective communication efficiently with patients and members of the community.
