Analysis of Generative Pre-Trained Transformers (GPTs): Bias, Perception, and Professional Impact

Critical Analysis of Technology’s Role and Its Impact on Personal Perception

The rise of generative pre-trained transformers, popularly known as GPTs, has resulted in unforeseen changes in society. The most popular technology tool in the market is ChatGPT, which was launched by OpenAI late in 2022 (George & George, 2023). At an event hosted by the Business and Productivity Club of New Hampshire, I had first-hand experience using ChatGPT to answer questions and automate boring tasks.

I was shocked at how the technology could generate direct, straightforward, and reliable solutions to human-triggered questions. I was initially used to search engines, where users are redirected to other sites for detailed responses. Consequently, I have been made to believe that the world will get more interesting and threatening simultaneously.

Most people will be more productive in their respective lines of work. However, it also implies that others will lose their jobs due to adopting generative pre-trained transformers like ChatGPT, Google Bard, WriteSonic, DhiWise, and Andi (Šlapeta, 2023). The technology has completely changed my perception of the world, as I am concerned about the consequences of the potential abuse of GPTs.

Awareness of Bias and Its Influence on Technology Use and Interaction

Over the years, I have approached technology development, testing, and adoption with bias. For instance, search engines such as Google and Bing have predominantly displayed results based on relevance. Although it is not clear what the criteria are for awarding relevance scores to web pages, the results have proven to be reliable.

Unfortunately, the topmost responses may not respond to the requirements or expectations of a user. This may be due to the presence of actual results in low-ranking pages that the search engines may not prioritize. ChatGPT was trained using naturally available data on Wikipedia and other web pages and may not be up-to-date in some areas.

For instance, the technology is still primitive in mathematical and logical reasoning, rendering it unreliable in such domains (Dwivedi et al., 2023). ChatGPT relies on artificial intelligence to generate responses. However, it may produce imaginary responses that mislead professionals in their lines of duty. However, using AI-based technologies has improved my morale, especially where adequate training and reasoning models have been implemented. I prefer GPTs when I require direct responses rather than general results. However, search engines are the best option if additional research is required.

Technology’s Role in Shaping Professional Insights and Future Studies

As a student, effective time management and extensive research are key determinants of my time in school. The need to establish responses within a short period requires the use of practical tools like ChatGPT. This is an excellent step towards saving time, which may not be possible with conventional search engines. The GPT can link me to reliable databases, websites, and other essential resources for detailed fact-finding. There has been a dynamic change in the technology sector, with applications spanning different disciplines such as education, medicine, astronomy, physics, and biology.

However, the introduction of GPTs threatens jobs for millions of skilled people worldwide. Studying technology trends would put me in a better position to understand how education would be impacted (Biswas, 2023). It would also guide me in preparing a safe career path by venturing into the least threatened opportunities. I also recommend harnessing the power of technology tools to improve my academic experience and plan for after-school life.
