Approval of Public Health Policy Meeting

Topic and Focus

The topic of the public policy meeting was “Healthcare for All,” during which Michael Lighty, Director of Public Policy for National Nurses United, California Nurses Association explained to the public of Nevada City the Healthy California Act, SB 562. The Act guarantees that every Californian citizen will receive comprehensive healthcare services (“Healthy California Act,” 2017); it has been compared to Medicare for all. Moreover, under the Act, individuals are awarded a free choice of health care services and professionals they would like to contact. Covered benefits will range from services for keeping citizens both physically and mentally to services of diagnosis and treatment.

Additionally, the Act ensures that citizens are provided with all necessary services, hospital stays (including daycare, home health care, hospice, etc.), and surgeries. Therefore, the public policy meeting provided citizens with all the available information needed regarding the implementation of the Healthy California Act, SB 562. Also, Mr. Lighty was joined by a panel of policy experts and health care professionals to answer questions asked by the public (YubaNet, 2017). Such meetings are important to hold since they offer the local community insightful information about the current or future policy implementation so that they possess the knowledge necessary for fulfilling their healthcare needs and requirements.
