Benefits of Physical Activity

Physical activity is necessary for a person if he/she wants to maintain a healthy form of his or her body. The main factor influencing the health in our bodies is metabolism. If its runs smoothly and averagely fast, then it ensures our bodies with appropriate protection from diseases. It also guaranties that our weight remains under ‘control’ and not degenerate to obesity. But many people do believe wrongly that pursuing physical activity is a task only for sportsmen and not easy for ‘normal’ people. They believe that simply do not have the time to do that. What they should know is that even “moderate-intensity aerobic activity, like brisk walking” will benefit them greatly (“Physical activity and health”, 2009, p. 1). And surely everyone has the possibility to take a short 15-20 minute walk in order to help improve his or her health.

There are several positive consequences for a person if he/she pursues physical exercises. The first worth mention is that physical exercises reduce the possibility for cardiovascular diseases. The second important thing to mention is the reducing of risk for diabetes. As mentioned above, physical activity improves metabolism functionality, whom influences directly on better performance from the heart and decreases the possibilities for sugar level misbalances in the blood. Other positive side effects of physical activity are the reducing of risks for certain types of cancer. These are the three major health impacts physical activity has regarding disease prevention. But it also helps strengthen bones and musculature of the body, improve mental and psychological health and gives you the possibility to better perform during your daily works.

In today’s world having a ‘perfect body’ with a lot of muscles has become almost a mania for especially young men. Many of them rush into fitness centers and gym’s to achieve this goal. An increasing number of people are becoming practitioners of the sport of bodybuilding. But there are certain fundamental mistakes they make as pointed out in the article by Gallagher. Personally, I agree with the advices the authors gives and I think they are valid for other people not practicing bodybuilding as well. The first two biggest mistakes are related to food consuming, one is for over-eating and the other for under-eating. In fact, both eating too much and too less can harm the body.

Thus the first thing a person wanting to build-up a healthy and fitness body must consider is how much to eat. The second group of big mistakes is related to what you eat. One should acquire some basics of cooking because this way you can prepare your meal the way you want it and how you require it. As Gallagher states:

“Nutritionally sound foods eaten throughout the day are necessary to obtain anabolism. Most male bodybuilders (and more than a few female ones) do not cook. Big mistake.” (1995, p. 1)

Also the other important factors to bar in mind are to keep the necessary food balance for your body accordingly to its requirements. One should be careful to keep the appropriate level of proteins, sugar and fat in his/her daily nutrition. Very important is the factor of keeping your body hydrated. Since the body is mostly comprised of water, then it is water, or other form of liquids, that should be the most consumed during the day. If a person is to keep his/her body healthy from diseases and in a good physical shape he/she has to pay much attention to what he/she eats and how much eats. This is true for bodybuilders and for non-bodybuilders as well. Many problems we cannot do nothing to resolve, but there are a few, major ones, that we have all the capabilities and potentials to adequately deal with. Sound nutrition is one of them.
