Characteristics of Social Awareness

Introduction

The phenomenon of social awareness addressed the importance of acknowledging the fact that every human, being a part of society, bears the responsibility to meaningfully interact with others in order not to cause harm. Life coaches, whose primary task is to help clients to move on with their life and rediscover their vocations, are to account for everything they say and do because they interact with vulnerable people. People asking for guidance voice their concerns to the coaches hoping to find support and understanding. As a result, unaware actions and thoughts of the coach, although sometimes justified, may cause the client to feel insecure and close up. Accounting for one’s emotions is vital when listening to the client and generating feedback, as sometimes the wording or nonverbal cues subconsciously make the client feel like they are not accepted by the coach.

Emotional Intelligence Exhibition

The generally accepted job tasks of a life coach are to consult clients on the matter of their personal and professional life choices and to help the client identify their goals and vocation in life. To do so, professionals have to obtain high levels of empathy and compassion, identifying themselves with the feelings and concerns of their clients. As far as choice counseling is concerned, life coaches employ such EI tools as empathy and collaboration to let the clients’ guard down and express their support in the situation. The notions of empathy and communication are also extremely important for the identification of the goals, as they allow the professionals to define the desires of their clients precisely. Since clients frequently address life coaches because of work challenges and the inability to handle conflicts, they are to effectively teach the client to manage confrontations and benefit from conflict. Such education is impossible when life coaches are not self-aware in conflict resolution.

Psychological Theory

When speaking of life coaching as a profession, the primary emphasis is usually placed on the specifics of humans’ rediscovery and mental growth. For this reason, to secure a successful framework of communication, life coaches should refer to the positive psychology theory. This framework stands for one’s ability to focus on individual strengths and emotions to cultivate and promote happiness. Life coaches may point to the clients’ strong sides to empower them to find faith and believe in their abilities. Moreover, the belief that positive outcomes derive from the positive perception of the environment may as well benefit interprofessional communication.

Strategies to Increase Emotional Intelligence

The position of a life coach will inevitably change the perception of emotional intelligence because EI skills serve as the foundation for efficient collaboration with customers. Hence, the urge to identify oneself with the situation will increase the levels of empathy and communication management. The strategies of active listening and self-awareness will be utilized to develop such vital EI skills as compassion and collaboration, the significance of which may be later measured by the level of clients’ trust. The former allows for a deeper connection with the client, whereas the latter is crucial in terms of starting to understand the concerns of other people. When enhancing one’s EI, a person automatically contributes to the development of a conscious and cruelty-free society, as people tend to embrace the experiences of others and, subsequently, eliminate anger and egocentrism within the community.
