The process of a compelling and informative speech’s creation should include some essential elements which are indispensable for a well-organized presentation. Careful preparation and achieving the necessary skills will lead to the desired effect on the audience.

First, it is essential to pay thorough attention to the process from the beginning. While choosing a topic, one should take into consideration significant criteria, such as personal experience and the audience’s characteristics. According to Rothwell, topic appropriateness should be taken into account with regard to a speaker as one must have sufficient authority or belong to a particular group to have the right to speak on specific topics (56). Concerning an audience, it is vital to avoid a situation when listeners find a topic offensive or unethical (Rothwell 57). In other words, choosing a topic, one should analyze not only their own knowledge but also the audience to meet its expectations.

Second, it should be mentioned that providing relevant information requires a willingness to spend enough time to find reliable sources within the preparation. Gathering information on the web, one should use Internet sources, such as directories, virtual libraries, and survey sites. However, the Internet is a source of rumors, which actualizes the necessity for considering sources’ biases and using fact-checking sites (Rothwell 69). While collecting information, in order to use libraries and interviewing, which are considered influential sources, one should be familiar with librarian catalogs and prepare a research interview plan.

Third, building structured speech is impossible without profound outlining, involving formatting, division, and coherence. Logical consistency implies that outline “flow from your purpose statement” (Rothwell 132). Moreover, each major point should be substantially developed to achieve balance, and one should create a pattern, for example, a topical or a chronological one, to organize their speech easily. Developing the theme, the author claims that to create a competent introduction to a speech, one should use several techniques, such as a quotation or a question (Rothwell 114). For example, a rhetorical question implies that the audience answers it emotionally, which helps to gain listeners’ attention. Thus, it is crucial to structure our speech logically and consistently.

Regarding the structure, after the introduction, the presentation might include a purpose statement, main points, which “flow directly” from it, and a conclusion. To analyze the theme more thoroughly and in more detail, one might use subpoints, which clarify the central points (Rothwell 133). To organize the conclusion effectively, one should summarize the main points, which “reminds the audience of the most important” aspects of the speech (Rothwell 124). Moreover, the introduction should contain a memorable revelation and refer to the opening in order to remind about the central topic.

In addition, to develop an effective speech delivery, one might use several methods, such as manuscript, memorized, impromptu, and extemporaneous speaking. It is crucial to remember that a speaker should avoid expressive vocal fillers, such as “like”, “you know”, maintain eye contact with the audience, and pay attention to their postures and gestures (Rothwell 164). According to Rothwell, to present a powerful, informative speech, the speaker should “swim in the information” (236). Given that, it is significant to practice some techniques, for example, making a story concise and adapting to the audience. While practicing a speech to inform listeners, a speaker wants to teach them something new and can accomplish new skills by themselves. In other words, by choosing the correct information, one can master the topic deeper. By structuring their presentation consistently, the speaker develops logic skills.

To conclude, to create a compelling and competent speech, a person needs to choose the right topic that will meet the narrator’s interests and suit the audience. In addition, one needs to select reliable sources and structure the presentation logically. Paying attention to all the above-mentioned aspects, the speaker will be well-versed in their topic and confident in their ability to convey information correctly.
