I would consider myself to be one of the strong supporters of his thoughts claiming the American dream rapidly turning into a “split-screen American nightmare,” implying an impressive gap between social classes that destroy the state’s well-being.

However, nowadays, among all the questions that emerged, the most significant will be whether the American dream actually exists and deserves discussion in 2020. The very definition of this concept implies that anyone, regardless of their cultural or ethnic affiliation, gender, or social background, is a creator of one’s own fate and perception of success. The 21st century, being one of the most progressive stages of equality integration in the overall understanding of world citizenship still obtains an innumerate number of restrictions for various social classes. Hence, what was the chance of taking care of your own future with one social class of Christian white males having the privilege to access all the working, educational, and cultural opportunities? How was this notion explained to people who did not belong to this category?

The only appropriate answer to these questions will be that the American dream was an illusion in the first place, and illusions often have the tendency to dissolve with time. The thrive of capitalism has made the American dream a desirable state of things unachievable in the near future. Thus, as long as there is no evidence of this phenomenon being present over the state’s timeframe, there is no opportunity to find a way to fix it.
