Difficulties Encountered While Writing Research Papers

Introduction

Writing a research paper has been a difficult journey in my academic field due to the numerous problems that I have faced when doing research. By its very nature, research is a challenging endeavor that necessitates an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, careful preparation, and hard work. These studies investigated various challenges/difficulties I encountered when writing research papers. The study looked into various and frequent difficulties encountered while writing research papers and projects, such as difficulties involved in deciding on a research question, lack of good knowledge of methodology, failure to find advanced, specialized, and connected references, lack of enthusiasm in research, lack of understanding of the subject, and lack of insufficient time.

The contents of this journal are based on issues faced when writing a thesis statement of a research paper. Some of the topics cover a broad topic, while others focus on a single aspect of the research I have been doing. In general, a thesis statement informs readers of the issue you will be discussing. An excellent thesis statement reflects your point of view and your conclusion on the subject. My thesis statement does not yet cover all the topics included in the research.

The definition of the research problem is one major challenge when writing a research paper. My difficulty is to avoid making the error of having an issue that is either too broad or too tightly defined. Both are problematic for researchers. According to Zhang (2020), one of the most typical mistakes students make when drafting research proposals is using broad names with no specific and targeted content. Because of the general problem description, the problem statements were not articulated enough to guide the readers, and the writers were unable to identify the appropriate research approaches.

Academic writing requires a writer to reference or cite the sources they employ. It enables the writer to recognize and avoid plagiarism by acknowledging the ideas or words of others that were used in their work. Referencing also shows that the writer has studied relevant literature and can support their claims with evidence. Others will find the items you utilized if you properly cite them. Poor citation of reference works, discrepancies in reference citation, and the usage of multiple citation styles in these contributed to the repository from the same department are just a few of the challenges I have had with citation. According to GUDURU (2021), one of the most challenging aspects of writing is obtaining resources: Institutions seldom sponsor undergraduate research, whereas graduate students do. Therefore, students may encounter financial difficulties. I used readily available web sources to overcome this obstacle and followed the needed citation format.

Another issue I have encountered while writing research papers is coherence and consistency. Creating an overview of the significant concepts and subsidiary points might assist in research in staying cohesive, according to Ahmad et al. (2019). In discourse analysis, cohesion and coherence are connected to understanding language. Cohesion and coherence are essential in knowing a message and interpreting its significance in a conversation. A strong balance of cohesive links and coherent aspects in the text is required for successful academic work.

Producing a suitable level of writing within the literature review is another problem that might be experienced, according to Ahmad et al. (2019). A literature review must be more than a list of citations and references. The researcher must analyze the literature and place it within the context of the investigation. This necessitates cautious and deliberate interpretation and writing in which I synthesize and integrate the information I have gathered. An analytical technique and advancement are also essential to build the wide variety of information and skills required to promote the research.

Research writing is a well-structured work that considers audience, goal, arrangement, style, fluency, and organization relevant to the who, when, and how inquiries. The reader or readers of the writer’s message are the audiences to whom the query is addressed. The nature of the audience influences the content, arrangement, explanation, example provided, and vocabulary used in writing. Similarly, the objective is preoccupied with the why question, which directs the literary focus. The writer’s aim, or principal goal or statement, is defined as the purpose of the text. Finally, the how question addresses structure, style, appearance, and thought flow issues. According to Ahmad et al. (2019), research is divided into three-part introduction, body, and conclusion, which assists in the organization of the writing so that the readers are confident in their knowledge of the concepts or topics.

Similarly, the writing style must be precise, using proper grammar and terminology. Elements like a contraction, negation, weak ends, multi-word verbs, and repetitions must be avoided in formal writing. In the same way, competent academic writing necessitates proper spelling, punctuation, and citation and reference. It should have a smooth flow in the presenting of concepts so that cohesiveness and coherence are maintained, as addressed in greater detail in the following paragraphs.

Dicker, R. C. (2019). Analyzing and interpreting data. In The CDC Field Epidemiology Manual, 153–186., Web.

Another issue I had when preparing my research paper was interpreting literature and data. As an undergraduate student, I struggle with identifying gaps in the literature and fitting their work into my research paper’s current body of knowledge. I have had to figure out how to make sense of my information. According to Dicker (2019), the researcher must relate their findings to previous research, evaluate the books’ technique, analyze the data using appropriate software, and determine whether the results answer the researcher’s questions and hypotheses and are free of biases be generalized. This frequently necessitates cautious and measured assessment and writing in which they must synthesize and integrate all the information used together. This might be difficult for a researcher to do during the study planning process.

M, A. (2021). Researcher have significant challenges and difficulties while writing a research paper. Writing Skills for Academic Research, 19-35.

Another problem one can have is data collection when doing a research paper. Another problem is deciding on the optimal data collection method or technique to obtain the requisite data. This challenge is made more difficult because my selected respondents are hesitant to give information to young people for fear of it being misused. Theoretical information and knowledge are easy to obtain and use, but tangible facts and numbers are neither easily accessible nor easily desirable. Many factors must be considered when carrying out research, such as the source of collection, the nature of data required, the validity of the data, its analysis, and the formulations utilized.

Conclusion

Research writing has allowed me to obtain exposure and experience in their field of study while also allowing the investigation advisers to stimulate my understanding of research writing. Students contribute new eyes and perspectives to the research process, and their insights can be extremely useful in refining research techniques. Though there are obstacles in overcoming knowledge gaps, time management, and topic delivery pacing, the rewards far outweigh the difficulties. This report was based on my research on the challenges of writing the best research paper. To avoid significant errors, allow enough time to conduct research and write the essay, select an appropriate thesis statement, back up the thesis with enough data and evidence, and ensure that the paper is formatted correctly, including properly citing a source within the commentary and on the references section.
