Dissemination of Evidence Regarding Nursing Rates

The quality of care provided to patients in healthcare facilities depends on various factors, including the nurse-patient ratio. The PICOT question of this essay, “Does lowering nurse staffing ratios lower the possibility of poor patient outcomes?” was investigated in a journal article “The effect of nurse-to-patient ratios on nurse-sensitive patient outcomes in acute specialist units: a systematic review and meta-analysis” (Driscoll et al., 2017). This essay will evaluate potential venues for presenting the manuscript and two journals where the manuscript could be submitted for publication. It will also appraise the appropriateness of the journals for dissemination, provide an overview of their author guidelines, and evaluate the most challenging aspect of manuscript preparation.

Two refereed journals where the manuscript could be submitted for publication are the Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA) and the Journal of Advanced Nursing (JAN). JONA is a peer-reviewed journal that focuses on healthcare management and leadership, while JAN is a peer-reviewed journal that covers various nursing topics. Two similarities and differences between the two journals that they are peer-reviewed and publish original research articles related to nursing practice and management. However, there are several differences between them: JONA has a more specific focus on healthcare management and administration, while JAN covers various nursing topics. JAN has a broader readership and global reach, while JONA has a more North American focus.

There are three reasons why JAN and JONA are suitable for disseminating the manuscript. Firstly, the journals have a wide readership that includes nursing professionals, educators, and researchers, offering an opportunity to reach a broad audience. Secondly, the manuscript’s subject matter aligns with the focus of both journals, as they cover topics related to nursing practice and management (Driscoll et al., 2017). Lastly, the findings of the systematic review and meta-analysis have the potential to advance the existing knowledge in nursing and inform future research and policy development.

The Journal of Advanced Nursing requires that the manuscript be original research (see Appendix A), systematic reviews, or meta-analyses that have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The manuscript should be written in clear and concise language, and it should be well-organized and free from grammatical errors. The most challenging aspect of preparing a manuscript for submission to this journal would be ensuring that the research is novel, high-quality, and relevant to cardiovascular nursing practice.

The Journal of Nursing Administration requires that the manuscript be original research or a quality improvement project that has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Additionally, the manuscript should be well-organized, well-written, and free from grammatical errors (see Appendix B). The most challenging aspect of preparing a manuscript for submission to this journal would be ensuring that the research is impactful, relevant, and innovative in addressing current issues related to nursing administration.

The ICN Congress is a global conference that brings together nurses worldwide to share their research and best practices, with the goal of promoting the development of nursing knowledge, practice, and policy. There are several reasons why the conference would be an appropriate venue to present the manuscript. Firstly, it attracts a diverse group of nursing professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to disseminate the findings to a large and varied audience. Secondly, the conference’s mission aligns with the research’s purpose, as both aim to improve the quality of patient care and promote evidence-based practice. Finally, presenting the research at this conference could lead to collaborations with researchers and nursing professionals from different regions and countries, potentially leading to further advancements in the field of nursing.

In conclusion, disseminating evidence through national or international conferences and refereed journals is essential in promoting the translation of research into practice. The European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing and the Journal of Nursing Administration are appropriate journals to disseminate the findings of the research on nurse staffing ratios and patient outcomes. Additionally, presenting the research at the ICN Congress would be an appropriate venue to reach a broad and diverse audience and facilitate collaborations with nursing professionals from around the world.
