Donating money is always a great purpose because it expresses a will to help. There are many worthy causes for which the funds can be sent, but one of them deserves special attention. The extinction of rare species of creatures has been on the list for a long time. However, sometimes this question pops up surprisingly since species of animals on the verge of destruction are occasionally unexpected. Such an animal, in this case, is saola, which is in critical danger.
Few people heard about these creatures, and even fewer persons saw them. The reason for that is that they became known to science quite recently, and the discovery of this species occurred only in 1992 (Save The Saola). This artiodactyl family of the bovids was discovered in the rainforests of Vietnam and Laos. However, despite their recent discovery for science, hunters and poachers knew them for a long time. The consequence of human actions was the almost complete extermination of these beautiful creatures. The pace of hunting has led to the fact that these animals can no longer restore their population in the wild. For the salvation of this species to become a reality, active human intervention is necessary.
It was killing that put saola among the animals that are threatened with extinction. According to current data, less than a hundred individuals of such remarkable species are likely to exist (Tilker et al. 1248). The problem stands out from the rest because it is not given such wide publicity as, for example, the danger of the disappearance of Amur tigers. The animal is known to too few people, and that is an additional problem for its salvation. That is why it is necessary to direct all available resources to preserve that species of artiodactyls. In 2006, The Saola Working Group was created to actively fight for the conservation of such species (Save The Saola). Through the group’s efforts, it was possible to create nature reserves for saola, where they could live safely until they were ready to return to the wild (Tilker et al. 1248). However, the path to their salvation has only just begun and is far from complete. The Saola Working Group will accept any help allowing them to find and protect all surviving animals. The colossal danger hanging over this species, and the insufficient support is a significant factor for choosing such a direction as a worthy cause.
