Sport unites people not only at major events, games, and competitions. Possessing great influence, it is actively used to draw attention to world problems. The most important role in this field is played by the International Olympic Committee (Greenwell et al., 2019). It actively participates in solving urgent issues of nature protection, which in turn becomes a source of inspiration for athletes and contribute to their achievements. The actions of each organizer can contribute to a more environmentally friendly development of the planet.
Eco-friendly events take into account key areas of event organization: sustainable transport, recycling, efficient use of energy, as well as material and technical supply. By helping athletes to travel by more sustainable means or offsetting the negative impact of transport on the atmosphere, organizers contribute to environmental protection (Wong et al, 2020). They should also support the reduction of energy consumption as it improves oxygen performance in the region. The event can also become more environmentally friendly by reducing the amount of waste, reusing, and recycling drinkware.
These eco-friendly initiatives can be prioritized into the event’s goals and objectives. Athletes need a healthy environment to train and perform at their peak opportunities. This particularly requires adherence to basic air quality standards so that athletes breathe safely (Wong et al, 2020). It is important to adhere to basic water quality standards so that drinking water, as well as rivers and lakes used for swimming and boating, are safe for health (Greenwell et al., 2019). It is also necessary to adhere to basic food standards so that healthy food is available in sufficient quantities for everyone. Improvement of green areas and sites for sports and recreation is also an important factor.
A healthy environment is essential for athletes, and a range of sports are directly linked to nature which serves as a source of inspiration. The harmonious development of mankind presupposes the preservation of health, the maintenance of a moral and psychological climate. The solution to these tasks is impossible without environment protection, as well as rational use of water, energy, and other vital natural resources.
