Effective Team Management Through Leadership and Decision-Making

Team Management and Leadership

To effectively manage the team, I believe that a combination of leadership and management practices should be implemented. A team-based approach to management will empower employees and encourage them to take ownership of their work (Northouse, 2019). Establishing clear expectations and goals will ensure that employees are motivated, productive, and on the same page when it comes to the organization’s mission and goals of providing quality products to customers.

Open communication is essential for fostering a positive team culture. Giving feedback and recognition will help motivate and engage employees. Respect ensures that employees are treated with respect and that any differences are addressed respectfully and productively.

Followership

Firstly, I will begin by building relationships with each member of the team. My strong interpersonal skills will help me build relationships with team members and create a sense of trust and respect within the team. Secondly, I will take the time to get to know each team member and understand their strengths and weaknesses. My ability to listen attentively and provide clear feedback will help me to create an environment where team members can feel comfortable voicing their opinions and discussing their ideas.

Third, I will encourage my team members to talk to each other and work together openly and honestly. I will create an environment that is good for creativity and solving problems. My strong communication skills will help me make sure that everyone on the team can talk to each other and work together.

Decision-Making Models

The rational decision-making model is the most effective for the team and management approach to improve the team’s culture. As shown in the figure, the model is based on the principle that decisions should be based on logical, rational thinking and should be evaluated based on the expected outcome and cost-benefit analysis. This model also encourages managers to consider their team’s values, objectives, and goals when making decisions and encourages team members to be proactive in decision-making. Additionally, this model is in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, culture statement, and goals, as it emphasizes a rational approach to decision-making that is focused on achieving the organization’s objectives.

The Vroom-Yetton Decision-Making Model is an excellent tool for understanding how to approach decision-making in the workplace. This model evaluates the leader’s style of decision-making, the level of participation of those involved, and the amount of information needed to make a decision (Daft, 2022). This framework helps identify the most appropriate decision-making style based on the situation. The Vroom-Yetton helps to provide a framework for making decisions that are aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, culture statement, and goals. By allowing for different levels of involvement from team members in the decision-making process, the team’s culture can be improved and strengthened.

Emotional Intelligence

Promoting respect, trust, and collaboration among members can create an emotionally intelligent and inclusive team. This can be done by leveraging each individual’s diversity of perspectives, needs, and roles to ensure everyone’s voice is heard and taken into account (Northouse, 2019). In addition, providing resources and training helps team members develop the skills necessary to work together productively and cooperatively. These practices are in alignment with the organization because they promote and foster a sense of belonging, collaboration, and trust among team members. This allows the organization to have an engaged team that is committed to achieving goals and objectives.

Communication and Collaboration Across Functions

Forms and Functions

The forms and functions of the organization impact the team members. First, the structure of the organization directly influences the team’s ability to complete tasks, roles, and responsibilities, as well as overall effectiveness (Northouse, 2019). The team’s decision-making process can also affect how quickly and efficiently tasks and projects are completed. A reward system that encourages and rewards team members for their accomplishments can help increase motivation and morale. On the other hand, the team impacts the organization’s forms and functions by providing support, resources, and guidance to help achieve its mission, vision, values, and goals.

Communication Practices

The current communication practices have some strengths and weaknesses. The company has a transparent chain of command, and current communication practices are formalized. However, there is a lack of feedback and limited collaboration. Communication between teams is limited, and there is no consistent platform or strategy for communication. There is a lack of clarity on how decisions are made and implemented.

My recommendations are to focus on strengthening communication practices and collaboration by implementing a weekly team meeting with open discussion, proactive feedback, and goal setting. Team leads should be given the autonomy to lead their teams according to the company’s mission, vision, culture statement, and goals while fostering a strong team culture.

Organizational Mission, Vision, and Goals

Organizational missions, culture statements, and goals provide the framework for how an organization should operate and guide its decision-making. Firstly, the organizational mission outlines the fundamental purpose of the organization, including how it intends to add value to its customers and the world. Secondly, culture defines the values, beliefs, and behaviors that the organization wants to encourage and embody. Thirdly, goals provide a roadmap of the overall objectives that the organization wants to achieve and the strategies it will use to do so. They should align with the organizational mission and culture statement.
