Introduction

The speed of technological progress is dramatic. The numerous technical facilities and gadgets are designed to make the human’s life simpler. But do they really simplify the everyday life? It seems that not as much as it was expected. In particular, the healthcare is one of those areas that are being changed by the technological revolution the most. Therefore, the digital data and technical tools begin to force out the human’s care in the sphere of medicine. A current work is dedicated to the direct impact of technology on healthcare. The future predictions about the possible influences will also be reflected.

Description

Each year there are new technical trends that appear in medicine. For example, “almost a third of patients said they were interested in using a patient portal to engage with their physician, track their medical history, and receive educational materials and patient support” (Top 5 EHR Trends For 2016, 2016, para. 10). The patient portal represents a website that gives a personal access to the patients, which allows them to be aware of the latest updates about their health condition. It needs to be mentioned that the medical staff is often unable to serve completely, especially if there are too many patients in the hospital. That is the reason, why many medical workers have been asking for the technological additions that would help them in their obligations and not become a burden, which requires too much time for servicing. On the other hand, the patients request for the additions concerning their personal data. Now developers tend to improve the communication between the doctors and the patients, and their designing is directed to minimize the unnecessary operations (Cloud, Mobile Among Top EHR Trends to Watch in 2016, Consultant Says, 2015). Strangely enough, often people prefer the care that comes from the machines, rather than humans. A lot of the people consider that many health accidents that occur in the hospitals are related to the incompetence of the doctors. In its turn, they believe that the machines work according to their strict program, respectively, their data cannot be incorrect. Often the same could be said about the doctors, although according to Kevin MD, many physicians are unsatisfied by the fact of the growing promotion of EHRs in hospitals (Believe It or Not, Most Young Physicians Love Their Electronic Health Records, 2015). Despite the negative aspects of the technological facilities, still, there are many moments that improve healthcare, especially for those who have their medical therapies at home. In this respect, they relate to the category of patients that need more attention and care. According to Healthcare Business & Technology, “Major payors have eased the requirements to provide telehealth services. And with the growth of the senior population, who can’t always leave their homes for evaluation, telemedicine is expected to become more popular this year” (4 EHR Trends to Watch in 2016, 2015, para. 9). Without a doubt, there are many positive aspects of improving medical care through technical facilities. Considering all the details, still, it doesn’t have to become the keystone in medicine.

Predictions

It is predicted that most likely the side that relates to technical security improvement would be one of the first healthcare additions that would take place in the near future. A security plays the key role when it comes to interaction between the patients and facilities. According to Practice Fusion, a safety is one of the improvement purposes of the Institute of Medicine (Health Informatics: A Practical Guide, 2016).

Without a doubt, the machines are completely useless when the required level of protection is not properly provided. In that case, they may cause a lot of harm, which, in its turn, could lead to undesirable consequences. Thus, the security issue is the basis that must be taken into account in the first place.
