This matters because employee participation is required for quality improvement, and not being ready to take part in another initiative may hinder the process. The following essay will review some ways administrators have used to motivate employees.
Quality Improvement in Healthcare: Video Analysis and Personal Opinion
The creator of the video “Quality Improvement in Healthcare” mentions changes as an essential part of quality improvement. Simultaneously, the man acknowledges that some people may be unprepared for it or any new initiatives (DocMikeEvans, 2014). I have witnessed some methods that encouraged employees to partake in said ideas despite being doubtful and lacking confidence.
In the first case, employees were offered a more effective means of hygiene, as it was implied that it could decrease the number of adverse outcomes during patient contact. The workers were not open to that idea, as they were accustomed to their past habits. Fortunately, the administrator conducted motivational interviews to explain why this measure matters. This, in turn, made the employees less skeptical and motivated them to follow the new norms, as they knew why it mattered.
Another method I saw being used was setting priorities in care. The employees were dealing with multiple patients and were overwhelmed by a new order to examine them in emergency rooms. This almost made them want to prioritize the previous method. However, the new one was tweaked by setting a set of priorities, which made them more open to taking part in this initiative and abolishing the old one. As a result, patient outcomes improved, and the employees were satisfied.
Conclusion
In conclusion, quality improvement is a valuable part of healthcare. One of its most valuable aspects is employee participation, as it may affect patient outcomes. Some may not be open to new initiatives offered by administrators—fortunately, some ways to improve the staff’s desire to participate in said objectives. I have seen the former use motivational interviewing and setting priorities. This helped increase employee participation and patient outcomes.
