Economic globalization refers to the interdependence of the world’s financial giants due to increased technology and trade across the borders. Economic globalization can lead to personality disturbance, inconsistent with identity. When economic globalization leads to disruptions and uncertainty of uniqueness, our identities change. When people interact with more extensive cultural materials such as food and music, it impacts our identities. This study is primarily concerned with uncertainty, which involves using anonymous data. It is based on forecasting future events. When we meet new people, our identities may shift due to our interactions with them. Intrapersonal intelligence is critical for differentiating between our motivations and feelings.
Our identities are complex, and they change over time. Because we are all defined by our own unique identities, it is rare for two people to have the same identity. Globalization can also lead to income disparities between social classes. This means that lower-skilled workers may face a drop in pay. Economic globalization, according to Appadurai, can result in inscribed violence in the following ways.
Borderless world; Even though the borders have strictly staffed security, they always suffer from intruders from the nearby states. People can get access freely without submitting any immigration documents at the boundaries. Not all borders are porous, but increasing sites for contestation between states and different non-state interests. Secondly, Ideological differences between small communities and mega ethnic groups. This can affect both parties explosively and directly. The dominant ethnic group can take advantage of the small communities in terms of resources. Small communities may reap few benefits from trade in which the mega-group acquires a larger share than the other group. Goods can be purchased at low prices, causing the opposing group to engage in a bitter conflict demanding equality and a standardized business method. Ideological differences in corporate behavior can also cause significant price and product concerns.
Ethnic violence between intra-states; there is evidence that intrastate conflict is more frequent than interstate conflicts. History shows that most societies strived and fought for ethnic harmony and a social order where all wanted equal treatment. Intrastate conflict occurs between the minority groups and minority groups where the majority exploits the minority. Another Orphism of intrastate conflict can arise where the advantaged discriminates and humiliate the disadvantaged. This type of violence makes the select group gain a significant portion of limited resources or gain jurisdiction that enables decisions that align with their demands.
On the other hand, interstate conflict occurs between two or more different states where one state rises against the other state. The contest can be caused by a factor(s) in which the state’s share a common interest (Commodifying Descent American-Style, n.d). Suppose the conditions disagree on how to share maybe the mineral resources located at the borders. In that case, they can find alternative ways to develop the best alternative to distributing resources. There can be uncertain questions like how many refugees are in the state? What has caused them to relocate from their place?
Another violence caused by globalization is the religious differences in terms of beliefs between Islam and Christianity. Christians believe that Jesus was the son of God who was blameless and divine, whereas else Muslims treat Jesus as the most crucial prophet of Allah. They claim that Jesus neither belonged to the trinity nor was he divine. Christians believe that Jesus’ birth was unique as many events were associated with Jesus’ birth, whereas else Muslims treat Jesus’s birth as normal birth and that he was created the same way Adam and Eve were created.
The body marks of Hutu and Tutsi of Rwanda caused identification uncertainty between the two groups. There is a mythical-historical representation of how killers from the Tutsi side used physical differences (marks on the body) to identify the Hutu for killing. This was based on the fact that there was much hatred between the two groups (Commodifying Descent American-Style, n.d). Women were severely killed using bamboos whereby they were stabbed on the head or any other sensitive organ of the body. Later the Hutus migrated to Tanzania to look for stability. In conclusion, we should positively distinguish our identities to make the other group not feel oppressed or live in fear. We should also find solutions to the violence or conflicts that may arise from our changing identities that vary when encountering different individuals.
Capitalism is a profit-driven system in which private owners control trade and industry rather than the state. The system is both economic and political. Economic Capitalism means that private businesses control all production factors such as labor and natural resources (Hill Collins, 2006). On the other hand, political Capitalism refers to how private individuals manage and own assets and capital. Capitalism has resulted in many innovations, such as Amazon and Facebook. Private owners have control over the properties in terms of their interests. The capitalist system only allows the government to intervene in public goods.
One can become a capitalist when they invest in a given business with multiple shareholders, and the interest is shared or distributed following the principles of Capitalism. Many peoples have seen Capitalism as the source of change for the livelihood and politics of American indigenous people and black people. This is not the case from a broad perspective because Capitalism has created more problems than expected. It leads to dominance in product and labor markets and wealth and wealth inequality, leading to social division. Capitalism has negatively impacted the lives and politics of indigenous Americans and black people in various ways.
Capitalism has ignored the needs of the people. Capitalism does not meet the needs of financially insecure people; the poor are left to starve and die from hunger. They have only received minor government benefits, which are not always guaranteed to be provided. It creates inequity for those who cannot work due to a variety of obstacles. Unequal wealth distribution is not evenly distributed according to capital invested; thus, only groups or individuals exploit the other group or individual.
Capitalism also causes unequal opportunities in social life. As private property can be passed from one generation to the next, the people who acquire the inherited capital can have better employments in the States. They are also given a chance to get the best education up to the highest levels depending on their wish. Inheritance creates unequal opportunities and disadvantages others (Hill Collins, 2006). To add on, African Americans are not given the same chance of educations as whites. Because they possess American citizenship, they are not guaranteed to access education. Some fail to attend schools because of strict rules and policies enacted and implemented by the government and perhaps poverty.
Another effect of Capitalism is market dominance or monopoly in the market. Capitalism tends to monopolize the market environment in an economy with no competition since it can rise or even hike commodities’ prices and maybe rates. In a monopoly environment, a dominant company exercises the power of monopoly in its field of operation depending on the type of product or service it offers. This means that it is tough for a new company to enter the market since most people are used to the effects of the dominant company since goods or services are popular. In this case monopolist dominate the entire industry sometimes due to continued protectionism by the state where a few or in other case one firm is granted production right while denying others. In this event existing firms tend to produce low-quality product and poor service delivery due to lack of rivals. Therefore, citizens have little good to select in the market as they rely on what is availed by monopolists. Protectionism in most cases is done at the expense of tax payers’ money hence creating serious economic and social differences among citizens.
Racial segregation is on the rise due to Capitalism. Some theorist believes that Capitalism causes inherently discrimination where the colored are segregated, especially the blacks. Capitalism leads to oppression of the colored, and the blacks are not equally treated the same way as the whites and are denied public services (Hill Collins, 2006). The big businesses owned by the whites discriminated against the colored by refusing to attend to them and providing services, but instead, they ended up delivering low-quality services. This led to civil rights acts law that has not benefited the colored.
Capitalism has caused market failures as it has failed to supply sufficient goods or services to customers in the free market. It is susceptible to market failures and hence cannot be relied on. Failure in the market can be caused by overprovision of low-quality goods and abuse of monopoly power since there are no competitors in business (Hill Collins, 2006). The poor quality of goods occurs due to lack of competition, encouraging firms to continue producing substandard commodities. This makes them feel in control as people must purchase their service or product regardless of the quality and quantity of the product or services offered.
Capitalism has created more problems than anticipated. Many people in the United States, particularly whites, have organized protests and peaceful strikes to protest black people’s continued brutal treatment and exploitation. Racial segregation must be avoided to foster social harmony and friendly interactions between locals and immigrants. This would also aid in ensuring the state’s joint development with equal contributions from whites and blacks. The majority of people are protesting and opposing capitalism and advocating for socialism, in which the community owns and controls the means of production and supply. It is possible to eliminate the problems caused by capitalism by embracing socialism, and the government will also have full involvement in decisions affecting goods and services. In this case, issues arising from discrimination will be minimal due to the lack of pursuit of individual gains. There will be no more monopolies in the marketplace, as there will be fierce competition to provide high-quality goods and services.
