Evaluating the Absence of Vision, Mission, and Values at the Healthcare Facility

Introduction

Setting values becomes one of the most critical aspects of the organization’s activities. This is because it provides the main directions in which the company should further develop and serves as the basis for making decisions during its operation and growth. An equally important role is played by vision and mission statements, which determine how the organization sees itself in the future and its role in society. This paper will review the value, mission, and vision statements of Highlands Advanced Rheumatology and Arthritis Center (HARAC), examining their role in the organization’s operations and strategic development.

Lack of Values, Vision and Mission on the HARAC Website

Values

When researching the HARAC website, it is challenging to find organizational values. This is because companies often have separate sections with clearly defined statements that they follow when carrying out their activities. The organization under investigation offers a comprehensive range of medical services, with a particular emphasis on rheumatology. The chief physician of Dr. Torres notes that “our practice is centered on efficiency and efficiency provided in a caring and civil environment” (Dr. Alexander Torres, MD, n.d.). This statement can be considered a value statement, but it was not easy to define or evaluate, and only one individual shared it.

Mission and Vision

Regarding the organization’s vision and mission statement, there is no information on these two critical aspects of the organization’s work on the website. Thus, due to their absence, it is impossible to discuss the exact purpose of the medical facility and how these indicators align with one another. The main conclusion of the HARAC study is that the organization lacks these foundational elements, which implies the emergence of several challenges that have resulted in the absence of these key components.

Importance of Values, Vision and Mission

Values

Firstly, the process of establishing organizational values, vision, and mission statements lays the foundation for the creation and development of any organization. Norman (2019) pointed out that “value statements list the principles and ethics to which an organization adheres, and they form an ethical foundation for the organization” (para. 3). Thus, their absence deprives the company of determining what it should follow and how to form its practice relative to which bases (Fiset & Al Hajj, 2022; Heinilä, 2022). Perhaps the problem was that the organization’s founders could not independently determine this component.

Mission and Vision

It is also worth noting that the vision and mission statements are not available on the organization’s website. Research stated that it is implemented “as a tool used by managers to shape value congruence to achieve enhanced employee performance levels” (Toh et al., 2021, p. 329). Thus, employees and specialists are deprived of an element that would unite them and contribute to the team’s cohesion in achieving a common goal. The challenge for this aspect may be the lack of a clear value statement and a comprehensive understanding of what the company’s future may hold.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the HARAC under study does not provide any information regarding its value, vision, and mission statements, which is a significant disadvantage, as these elements form the basis for building the most productive and practical activities. Moreover, they contribute to the establishment of a practice among employees and help bring people together through a common goal. Thus, the organization should take measures to provide data on the studied indicators to gain advantages and improve its activities.
