Compliance Standard: Strict Substance Abuse Compliance Program
Our team here at Exxon Mobil is dedicated to sustaining a safe, productive, and healthy environment for all workers. We recognize that the abuse of substances such as alcohol and drugs will inevitably limit the performance of your workers as well as have an adverse effect on the overall safety, productivity, and the efficiency of the workplace.
Exxon Mobil does not allow for the distribution, sale, or use of substances on the premises of the company; moreover, working under the influences of substances will result in an inevitable termination of cooperation. On the other hand, our compliance program recognizes that the dependency on alcohol and drugs is a serious medical condition that should be treated. We encourage our workers to refer to appropriate healthcare providers to seek help in overcoming the addiction before this issue causes them to have problems in the workplace. Exxon Mobil’s Employee Health Advisory Program has been created for the purpose of advising workers on treatments and helping them overcome challenges such as substance abuse. We underline the fact that no worker will be fired solely on the basis of his or her substance abuse because our company believes that we should be involved in the efforts of rehabilitation (Exxon Mobil, 2017).
Within our compliance standard that regulates the affairs regarding substance abuse, the company may perform unannounced searches for alcohol or drugs on the premises owned or controlled by Exxon Mobil. Employees can also be subjected to medical evaluations and testing in case if substance abuse is suspected. If a worker gives a positive result or refuses to comply with the regulation to pass it, he or she will be refused from cooperating with the company or terminated from his or her position.
Sustainable Safety Culture
Here at Exxon Mobil, we acknowledge the importance of building a sustainable culture of safety because the company operates in the energy industry, which not only influences the lives of people all around the world but also has a direct impact on the environment. In order to meet the continuously growing demand of the global society for the expansion of the industry, our company also needs to pay attention to sustainable safety practices to which it will commit long-term rather than making them a top priority for a short period (Woods, 2015). Our company is aware of the past mistakes such as the Valdez spill and recognizes that there is still a lot of room for improvement.
Our sustainable safety culture implies the design and maintenance of facilities, the creation of management systems, and the provision of training to employees in the manner that would protect people and properties. We pay massive attention to responding to emergencies and accidents quickly and effectively; if needed, we cooperate with other establishments and agencies. Moreover, we put effort into working with governmental organizations and agencies to develop standards and regulations to reduce the risks of safety and prevent accidents from occurring.
Exxon Mobil also sees the need for extensive research on the safe practices to enhance the company’s operations and equipping employees, partners, and contractors with valuable knowledge that they can use in their everyday practice. We stress that everyone working on behalf of the corporation should be aware of their accountability and responsibility to comply with the sustainable safety culture on the job as well as practice safety measures outside it.
