Factors Affecting Miami Hospital Operations: Analysis and Improvement Strategies

Hospital Description

The University of Miami Hospital (http://www.umiamihospital.com) is one of the best health care institutions in the USA. It provides a wide range of treatment services, including rare fields like sports medicine (Sports Medicine, 2017). This hospital is a part of the University of Miami Health Systems. Various factors affect this organization both in a positive and in a negative way.

Factors

Internal

One of the most important factors affecting the hospital is the fact that it is a part of the large research base of the University of Miami. Regular studies and innovations allow conducting treatment processes that are addressing the latest findings in medical science. Another factor is the hospital’s technical supply. All appliances and equipment are modern, which allows performing accurate diagnostics and treatment, which positively affects the reputation of this hospital. However, there is also one negative factor that is common for this organization, which is the nursing turnover. A nursing job is very demanding, yet the amount of work is overwhelming, and many specialists leave the place, which turns out to be costly for the hospital’s management.

External

The first external factor that affects the University of Miami Hospital is the environment in which it is situated. High sun activity leads to an increased number of melanoma cases (Guy Jr. et al., 2015). This is not a good thing, yet it serves as a source of patient growth. The aging population is another factor that positively affecting the hospital. Since there are a lot of senior people, it brings more patients since this age group tends to have many health issues. Nevertheless, there is one negative factor, which is the number of competitors, as are several other hospitals in the region.
