The film “Father Soldier Son” reflects the intimate narrative of an American family whose father has lived on the battlefield for a decade. It reflects the reunion of a dad and his two young boys after a long period of deployment in Afghanistan. From a personal viewpoint, this film presents a valuable piece of inspirational information to many families who have been left by their soldier fathers as they leave countries to fight in foreign nations. Combat activities have serious implications for families, especially where young kids come into play. The Father Soldier Son film depicts even a worst-case scenario where two kids who are single father is deployed in one of the most notorious war zones (Davis and Einhorn par. 3). The boys’ vulnerability and deep attachment to their father are portrayed in the film, and it offers a compelling lens to view how the involvement of a loved one in combat affects the lives of close relatives, especially children. For instance, when Brian Eish was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010, his two boys Joey and Isaac were forced to cover a long-distance across the country to stay with their uncle.
The audience for this film would be families whose members have been deployed for military jobs, whether in their home countries or overseas. This piece is specifically chosen to elaborate on the difficult life experienced due to the absence of a parent or a caregiver. Deployment to war often gives rise to additional stress to family members. Unprecedented challenges may occur before, during, or after deployment, creating an emotional cycle depending on how the news reaches the family. This film shows how a short period of strong emotions crops up due to the intimate attachment of the children and their father.
This film is chosen within a period in which the world is experiencing many wars not only in Afghanistan but also in other countries such as Yemen, Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, Ukraine, Nigeria, and Somalia, among others. I consider the Father Soldier Son documentary as modern because it reflects the current lives of individuals. However, the film can also be used to relate to the woes of families whose members have been involved in previous combats. The message presented conveyed by the film is universal and timeless. It psychologically prepares families to expect any form of news from their relatives who are deployed for the war. When Brian comes back to his home country, he is completely different because of various injuries and trauma that he experiences in Afghanistan. His behavior disturbs his family despite his attachment with his boys.
I chose Guardian as the legitimate publication for this film review. This site has the ultimate target audience for my work. The audience will learn various issues that families of combat soldiers go through in their absence. Some of the challenges that will arise in this review include concern, worry, panic, loneliness, and added family responsibilities as evident in the film when the two boys move to live with their uncle. Another matter that the audience is expected to note is the financial difficulties of the lonely family and their fear of what their beloved ones might be experiencing in the war. For these reasons, Guardian will be the best publication for my audience since many films reviewed on this site feature real-life stories of people who have had both positive and negative experiences in different areas.
