Florence Nightingale had strong religious convictions and a profound vision of the potential of nursing, which helped her to alter the status of nursing from that of a domestic service to a profession. Nightingale utilized available opportunities, personal motivation, and the strength of her persona. One of the most effective tools she used was advocacy for the nursing collective and individuals (Matthews et al., 2022). Nightingale did not directly address the concept of advocacy; rather, she demonstrated advocacy through leadership and promotion of Egalitarian human rights. Nightingale’s first demonstration of advocacy was at the hospital of Gentlewoman where she urged patients of all faiths or no faith to be equally admitted. During her fifty productive years in leadership, Nightingale interacted with government officials to determine the potential of nursing. Nightingale’s accomplishments and visions have created a roadmap for future generations.
