Gender inequality in the US for men and women has significant consequences both in the family and in the professional sphere. Thus, in the family, inequality is primarily reflected in specific relationships between the genders, and it also affects parents’ roles. In the family, men may sometimes experience pressure and increased responsibility as they are often expected to take the main role in decision-making. They can also be exposed to social pressure and unequal treatment in the family if they choose to take parental leave or focus on housework.
For women, gender inequality usually leads to pressure in their family relationships and domestic duties. Traditionally, men can have more rights and privileges in the family, while women still have less power in making important decisions, such as relocating or buying a new house (Petts 35). At the same time, women are expected to play the main role in taking care of children and other family members without receiving sufficient help from men.
In addition, gender inequality affects the professional life of men and women. The problem is that women have more obstacles to achieving higher positions at work and receiving the same rewards as men. They often face sexism and some kind of discrimination in the professional environment (Petts 118). Even under the same conditions and skills, women may receive lower wages and be overlooked in terms of promoting.
On the other hand, men have obvious advantages over women in the professional sphere. They have more chances to get higher and well-paid positions, and they can also be preferred candidates for certain jobs and receive higher rewards (Petts 48-56). However, for men in the workplace, gender inequality can lead to undervaluation and low wages, in some cases, as well as to restrictions on professional opportunities when jobs are not traditionally associated with male roles.
In general, gender inequality in the United States can have different consequences for both genders in the family and at work. It is possible to conclude that such inequality creates inadequate conditions for both men and women and can lead to cases of discrimination and injustice. Thus, gender inequality usually leads to critical social, economic, and psychological consequences for men and women.
