Health Needs Assessment in Tampa’s Southern Baptist Community

The Capstone Project’s Scope

A community aggregate windshield survey is a study carried out in a particular community with a chosen aggregate. It aims to assess the community’s health status and needs. The project’s scope is to analyze the community health needs and the factors that affect them. The current understanding of the topic is that it is a windshield survey, which means driving through the community to obtain data about their health needs and, thereafter, finding interventions.

The survey approach involves observing and recording information about the physical environment, such as the condition of the roads. It also incorporates collecting data on social and economic factors. The primary purpose of this survey is to analyze a community’s strengths and weaknesses regarding its health and social systems, inform interventions to improve the quality of people’s health, and help nurses understand the context in which they are working.

It is significant because having statistics about a community helps prevent diseases, thus promoting quality of life. The approaches used to examine the problem include root cause analysis, where the root cause of the problem is explored, and data analysis of the data collected throughout the survey. The outcomes of the project will include the identification of the health problems and their root cause, and also identifying solutions.

Problem Statement

The main aim of this survey was to assess the health needs of the chosen aggregate (Southern Baptist Church) in Tampa, Florida. Understanding their health needs can greatly help policymakers in the healthcare system make evidence-based decisions on ways to improve the quality of health in the area.

The primary health issue is infant mortality, which is high at five deaths per 1,000 births (Arcoleo, 2019). Also, deaths due to heart problems are at the top, thus the need to investigate (Pribish, 2019). These statistics show the significance of the problem and, hence, the need to conduct the survey.

Questions

  1. What are the major health issues facing the community?
  2. What environmental, social, and demographic factors impact health?

Methodology

Data will be collected during the windshield survey using a physical questionnaire. Three people from my aggregate will be chosen as informants. The collected data will be analyzed, and the results will be discussed with the appropriate authorities. The interventions will include setting up more remote clinics and health education for the public about healthy lifestyles, which will be implemented after the survey’s conclusion. After the interventions, an analysis will be done.

The data collected will be analyzed through tabulation of the numerical data and by comparing the findings to draw conclusions. Post-intervention data measurement will be done after an agreed-upon amount of time, and the procedure used during the survey will be applied during post-intervention data measurement. Updates will be given to the project supervisor weekly and will be shared through emails and status reports. The content of the updates includes the project status and the progress against milestones. To demonstrate the project’s progress, milestone achievements will be highlighted, progress reports will be prepared, and visuals and metrics such as charts will be provided.
