HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules

To avoid breaches of sensitive data and other types of security incidents, healthcare organizations must take a proactive and preventive strategy with security and protection demands in mind. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) contains ways of regulating these dangers using a mix of authorized and specialized security controls in order to make the most of the limited assets available. When the privacy of patients is guaranteed, they have adequate control over the release of their details hence lowering possibility of healthcare fraud.

HIPAA has made a significant contribution to the healthcare business by establishing privacy and security laws. It has ensured health information confidentiality, availability, and integrity to protect individuals’ health information while still giving access to healthcare providers, (Hinz, 2018). The rules modify the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and the Internal Revenue Code to regulate the availability of group and individual health insurance coverage.

Furthermore, it gives patients the right to examine and obtain a copy of their own health records, request corrections, and establishes appropriate safeguards that health care providers and other associates to facilitate effective protection. For instance, the Bill of Rights helps individuals feel more at ease with the healthcare delivery system, strengthen their partnerships with healthcare practitioners, and emphasize the critical roles that patients play in keeping well.

The rights provide the patient an equal voice to express concerns about how their treatment should be performed. One of the most essential aspects of these rights is respect for patients’ choices (Park et al., 2022). Sick individuals will always feel more at ease when their thoughts are heard, providing them with options is one method to increase their trust. Law stipulates that doctor-patient interaction should remain confidential. Confidentiality is vital as physicians should never reveal personal information unless the patient wants this information disclosed to others, or unless required by law.

The provider choice policy allows patients to freely accept their preferred clinicians, increasing their participation. The strategy also promotes integrity by reducing biases against patience (Park et al., 2022). It provides patients with equal opportunities to freely exercise their choices. Donna Jackson is uncomfortable working with Dr. Smith and requesting an option in choosing her own physician to demonstrate her right of choice of the providers and plans.

Keith Davidson’s request for emergency services owing to his life-threatening illness indicates that he has access to them. The emergency policy aided in the provision of good health circumstances for him. According to Keith’s situation, easy access gives the patient assurance of good services demonstrating the profession’s integrity. Incorporating patient priorities into their treatment can improve proximal communication outcomes such as the patient feel heard and involved. Jingle Smith’s right to engage in treatment decisions is demonstrated by her inquiring about all of her treatment options and insisting on her husband’s participation in the treatment process. Given the opportunity, her willingness is boosted. Her treatment options and request also show integrity in providing care services.

Respect and nondiscrimination policies are critical in building integrity because they give patients trust and remove the stigma associated with discrimination. In the case of Lisa Smith, her doctor makes disparaging remarks about her weight. She is bothered and offended, but because of the policy, she files a complaint with the administration. The policy allows her to share her concerns about the institution, allowing for a chance for improvement.

Confidentiality and privacy are one virtue that people loves being embraced. Disclosing someone’s personal details without their consent destroys their trust too. For instance, Bianca White’s realization that someone from the physician’s office has released her medical information without her knowledge sparks anger and as a result, she is confined to file a complaint with the office of the Inspector General. With the right, the integrity of the healthcare can be improved, and given the chance that Bianca files a complaint, reduces the fear of such puny. Therefore, it is necessary for healthcare facilities to comply with the HIPAA measures to enhance patients’ satisfaction.
