Chosen Variables and Their Importance
As the important research question is closely connected to its topic, it is crucial to highlight the need to understand the circumstances under which Hispanic immigrants can access quality healthcare services in the U.S. Therefore, for the chosen variables, various factors were selected. Among them are Hispanic immigrants’ culture, healthcare services, cultural competency, cancer screening, and social determinants, which include social, economic, and environmental variables of the study. These aspects were considered as variables during the literature review.
Rationales
The rationales for choosing these specific variables are based on two factors. First, the necessity of the study of the chosen subject is dictated by its relevance in terms of the considerable percentage of immigrants in the United States. This factor is followed by various problems, including healthcare issues, which can be primarily described as a lack of opportunities for particular groups of people to access high-quality medical services (Anderson et al., 2003). Second, variables such as economic, social, and environmental factors serve as vital tools for understanding the causes and potential outcomes of the stated problem. Therefore, their research is essential for obtaining important statistical data and information on existing studies of Hispanic immigrants and their lives in the U.S.
Logic of Thinking
The primary logical structure of the literature review is based on a review of various sources that provide the author with unique insights into Hispanic immigrants, U.S. policies, and the overall healthcare services landscape in the country. For example, it was essential to consider the study by Anderson et al. (2003), which emphasizes that cultural competence is a critical issue in the healthcare system. This fact plays a vital role in providing services for various groups of immigrants, such as Latin American people (Anderson et al., 2003).
The primary logic is supported by the opinion that the United States has a diverse demography (Anderson et al., 2003). Consequently, the country should ensure that immigrants can live comfortably and with dignity, and have the right to access services for basic human needs. It is the reason why issues such as socio-economic and environmental problems were discussed in the literature review.
Theoretical Explanation of the Problem
To understand the reasons for the problem with Hispanic immigrants, it is crucial to construct a theory that incorporates various factors related to the topic. Specifically, the theory chosen states that cultural and linguistic differences and various biases of regular Americans towards immigrants and foreign people are the primary causes of the problem. Therefore, the disparity in healthcare access for Hispanic immigrants in the United States stems from a complex interplay of factors. Many lack health insurance, leading to cost concerns and delayed care. Undocumented status compounds these issues, fostering fear of deportation.
Geographic and transportation limitations restrict access to healthcare facilities, particularly in rural or low-income areas. Discrimination and bias within the healthcare system further exacerbate disparities (Anderson et al., 2003). Limited health literacy impairs understanding of medical information.
Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach, including improving language access, providing culturally competent care, and expanding health insurance coverage. Comprehensive immigration reform and policies protecting the rights of undocumented immigrants are also essential for promoting health equity among Hispanic immigrant populations. Consequently, the literature review is based on theories of societal, economic, and healthcare inequalities in the U.S.
