We live in the age of technological marvel. Where product design and creativity are limited only by the developer’s imagination. Why are these things so important to product design and development these days? Consider the following; cellphones have successfully bridged the communication gap between people. It can take pictures, videos, send faxes, emails, and the like. The internet allowed for instant communication across the seas. These technological marvels have united the world in a certain way and in the process, have created the template by which any forthcoming products must help promote cooperation and understanding among people of the world. The product development and design must continue to be user-friendly and promote camaraderie in order for people to continue to keep an open mind about each other and understand more about the world we live in. Creativity is something born out of emotions, needs, and understanding. That is how products are envisioned and thus becomes the guiding objective during the development of the product. Guided by such ideas and emotions, creativity more often than not helps to make the world a better place. After all, it was the need for instant communication that helped create the cellular phones and the need for constant connectivity that created the notebook computers and PDA’s. Man has a constant desire to always be connected in order to not feel alone and that is the reason why creativity and design innovation will always help a man achieve a certain degree of peace and unity in his own world.
Keeping that understanding in mind, I realize that branding strategies must develop a sense of creativity and imagination if it is to survive the brand wars. Brand names can remain the same throughout time but the designs, concepts, and uses of their products must vary and evolve in order to remain relevant and exciting for the consumers to continue to purchase. I have already managed to gain some exposure in this field and I feel that I have a lot more to learn. That is why I decided to finally pursue a master’s degree at Central Saint Martin’s.
I am particularly interested in furthering my personal and professional goals via the “Applying for the Imagination” (Unit 2) course. As there are very few courses being offered in this field, and believe me, I have searched for all the schools offering similar courses in branding strategies, I feel that I will be offered a chance to closely investigate the direct relationship between design management and good designs. It is my hope that I will learn the inner workings of designing and how to come up with product-relevant designs that will be of interest to the consumers and perhaps also serve as the identity of the brand in certain instances. Kind of like when a person sees an Apple on an electronic product, he knows what company and brand he is dealing with. By examining that relationship, I hope to learn the proper design management procedures that are crucial to the development of the initial and crucial stages of design creation.
Eventually, I see myself becoming an excellent design specialist. I hope to work in creative industries and the marketing sectors. Maybe be even become a Chief Design Officer (CDO) for a global corporation team. But I know that becoming a team leader and CDO is not something that I can easily achieve, nor is it a light responsibility. Therefore I should ensure that I am well prepared to lead the team with a sense of compassion and a sense of humor. Two traits that I believe make for an excellent CDO.
Hopefully, I will be able to achieve this ambition while I attend Brunei University, an excellent learning institution whose school curricula are challenging and diverse in student attendance. I know that this will be the most ideal place for me to spread my wings and free my imagination as I continue to grow in ambition and capabilities.
