Despite coming from an engineering background, I’ve always had a strong inclination towards sales and marketing.
This has effectively led me to a career as a sales engineer. After having significant exposure to the consumer durables industry, in the realm of engineering and sales support roles, I have experienced the need for advancement in both my knowledge and my current employment responsibilities. To this end, an MBA from W. P. Carey School of Business is essential. It would enable me to fulfill one of my most prolific career goals—to obtain gainful employment as a business development manager within the marketing division of a nationally recognized product-based company. Furthermore, I envision myself in leadership roles within the same domain of a large global organization. I feel that this is only possible through the attainment of an MBA from W. P. Carey School of Business.
In an attempt to be proactive in attaining my career goals, I believe this is the opportune time to compliment my body of experience in product development as well as my managerial skills with a well-round business education as well as the attainment of practical leadership skills. More specifically, in order to convert consumer requirements to appealing products a conceptual understanding of how to collect and assimilate consumer preferences in diverse markets is needed. To this end, I feel that it is vital for me to learn how to use the information provided with regard to customers’ requirements as a means of continuously building new products and improving existing ones. This is vital to capture market share under different global markets and competitive schemes.
While at Carey, I am quite sure that I will be able to develop insight into the fields of Services Marketing, Consumer Product Marketing, and Consumer Behavior from one of the reputed faculty members of the school such as Dr. Mary Jo Bitner in Service Marketing & Management, Professor Michael Hutt in Business-to-Business Marketing & Sales Strategies or Peter Reingen in Consumer Behavior & Strategic Marketing.
Additionally, I feel that it is vital for me to maximize my interpersonal and communication skills as well as my ability to make educated and informed decisions in circumstances where risk and uncertainty prevail. Much of this involves an increase in knowledge with regard to finance and economics as well as executing successful marketing strategies. This opportunity can only be afforded to me through the successful completion of an MBA at Carey.
I realize the importance of selecting a reputable business school. Especially with MBAs, there is a heavy reliance on a school’s ability to foster both personal and professional growth. When assessing this quality, I attempted to network with individuals who have successfully completed the same or similar programs of study at the institutions I wish to attend. In so doing, I was able to connect with an alumnus of the W.P. Carey School.
The alumnus spoke glowingly of the school and was able to make several excellent points about the school. She spoke of the concerted efforts of the faculty and staff in an attempt to provide the students with both theoretical knowledge and its practical application. In so doing, she was able to obtain a full-time managerial position in her second year of study. Her testimonial spoke louder than any documentation I received from the other schools I investigated.
I have always found practical experience and real-time problem solving as the best method of learning for me.
The Carey MBA experience would be ideal in helping me to gain the necessary skills to realize my goals. In examining the School’s curriculum and the opportunities to gaining practical experience through case-based and team-oriented learning I realized that this offers the optimal balance.
The classroom structure within ASU provides me with ample opportunity to work on teams with extremely experienced and highly qualified professionals with whom I hope to foster lasting relationships.
Finally, one of the most poignant and influential factors motivating my interest in obtaining an MBA from Carey is its small class size. I fell particularly drawn to the small class size as well the inclusion of Student Services and Career Management teams. This is unique among the institutions I investigated.
Furthermore, the fact that Carey offers concentrations in Financial Management and Markets, Services Marketing and Management, Sports Business and Supply Chain Management coupled with the diversity of the student population serves to further laminate the pertinent aspects of attendance at Carey. Finally, managing the activities of a professional club will also provide me with an opportunity to develop additional leadership qualities.
Through the experiential learning opportunities, I hope to build marketing strategies for a real company and gain practical experience as a means of bridging the gap between theoretical and practical learning. I feel that the learning and experiences gained from obtaining a W.P. Carey MBA will catapult me to a career in marketing and help me realize my life-long career aspirations.
