With the development of science, humankind has gained access to technological advancements, which influence methods of education. In medicine, the modeling of situations has long been in use, with dolls and simulators being introduced to avoid training beginners on living people. Taking the collection of the anamnesis (a scrupulous task that requires professionalism) as a case example, students can attempt to correct mistakes in a forgiving environment.
Case Practice vs. Theory
The aforementioned process of collecting a patient’s health information allows creating an efficient care plan, taking into account their situation. While the case mentioned four nursing care theorists, only two, Orem and Neuman were examined as efficient when related to the drawn upon the patient. Especially important was the consideration of the patient’s life in prescribing care, for example, when lowered vision was mentioned and the spousal role in self-care.
Despite there being a file with information on the patient, the case requested that the students pose additional questions in line with the chosen nursing care theory. Knowledge of both Orem’s three-part theory and Neuman’s major concepts of nursing allows eliciting information to devise a feasible care plan (Masters, 2015). While multiple-choice questions are not as efficient as practice, this is an appropriate level for students to become acquainted with theory.
Case Practice vs. Practice
The implementation of a patient character who has life-like issues other than his diabetes creates realistic expectations. With diversity being prevalent in patients practitioners should be ready to accommodate a wide range of people (Alligood, 2018). This kind of approach represents that different individuals need different care tactics, and there is no single right way to care for a patient.
Conclusion
With examples of patients with specific needs being commonplace, from personality to circumstances, such a case advocates for an individual approach. Allowing students to practice in a fail-safe environment and memorize not only theory but also the practical side creates nursing professionals. The case method efficiently joined the theory of nursing care, how, and why it should be implemented in the health care system.
