Impact of Technology on an Increase in Body Mass

Mustafaoğlu Rüstem et al. wrote the article “The Negative Effects of Digital Technology Usage on Children’s Development and Health.” The researchers have assessed how technology impacts children in terms of weight and an increase in body mass. Evidence shows that children started using technological devices multiple hours a day. Video games, social media, and other activities related to such devices negatively affect children. They tend to have a sedentary lifestyle, bad posture, and other health problems (Mustafaoğlu et al. 13). The researchers have observed an increase in obesity, developmental issues, muscular atrophies, and a disruption in sleep schedules.

Moreover, it has been concluded that such adverse outcomes directly correlate with such activities’ frequency and timing. Children who spend more time playing video games and accessing social media are more likely to experience negative results. The same situation is observed with those who participate in such activities multiple times a day. Researchers recommend limited access to technological devices to mitigate the risk of complications such as an increase in body mass and other issues mentioned prior.

Cynthia L. Ogden et al. have examined obesity rates in specific contexts and illustrated the findings in the article “Prevalence of Obesity among Youths by Household Income and Education Level of Head of Household — United States 2011–2014.” A survey has helped the examiners to look for a pattern in childhood obesity. The authors analyzed how household income and education level impacts children in terms of obesity. Several families have been examined in regards to their prior education, their monthly income, and how these factors affect the children’s weight. The researchers concluded that in case the head of the family only has a high school education, the youngsters are more prone to seeing negative impacts on their weight. Moreover, families with lower monthly incomes have been described as vulnerable to having obese kids based on the findings of the researchers (Ogden et al. 186).

Such findings allow the authors to come to a comprehensive conclusion. Based on the results, it has been illustrated that families with no financial means are usually prone to seeing adverse outcomes in children’s health. The other correlation examined was the low level of education that leads to higher body mass in kids. Researchers mention that the findings highlight the disparities linked to poverty and lack of resources. Furthermore, such inequalities result in childhood health problems.
