Despite common definitions of war and its overall outcomes, today, people are more involved in introducing new political or religious reasons and ideals to support the decision to go to war. Citizens cannot neglect their direct duties and obligations when the government declares wartime. According to Barceló (2021), wartime and postwar times have a tremendous impact on civic engagement regarding freedom of speech and activity management. Still, it is possible to find excuses not to fight and follow peaceful alternatives. The promotion of ideological thinking by Facione and Gittens (2016) helps me understand how to express my core beliefs by combining abstractive and subjective thoughts. It is not enough to choose a value and start believing in it but to realize why this idea deserves my attention. Talking about war, I cannot ignore such values as family, freedom, commitment, faith, and honor.
Some people prefer to address such issues as truth, loyalty, strength, or honesty when explaining their intention to support the war. My position is a bit different because I do not believe war is a period when people understand the worth of truth or honesty. The only reason for justifying war that I want to consider is that its benefits should prevail over its disadvantages. War is always related to some losses and tears in human eyes. It is not easy for a normal person to decide to join the war without any values in mind. I think that if my family or my native land is under threat from another nation’s activities, it could be time to go to war. My task is to create conditions under which my family can enjoy freedom. My faith in a better future is my major motivator. Any war activity is a civic commitment that should be respected and honored.
For me, war is never an appropriate response because recent achievements, resources, and beliefs have already created a good and strong world for many citizens. Instead of demonstrating their ambitions and desire to earn as much as possible, it is high time to think about how priceless human life can be. War does not recognize between children and adults, men and women, healthy or sick. It might take everything in a second, and such values as family, commitment, and faith are integral to supporting free and honored life and explaining my readiness to go to war.
