Key Elements of the Affordable Care Act and the Role of Nurses in Healthcare Access

Key Elements of the Affordable Care Act and Their Impact

The Affordable Care Act contains several key elements that allow people to access affordable and quality healthcare. These elements include the expansion of voluntary medical insurance, the development of the right to become a recipient of medical services without detriment to health, the creation of a health bureau, the provision of access to adequate and quality services at a relatively low cost, and the support of research and awareness of health and well-being.

Essential elements of the Affordable Care Act concerning public health include the expansion of access to affordable healthcare through the growth of the Medicaid program and the direct provision of support through tax credits to cover the cost of healthcare (Spruill et al, 2021). Other critical elements of the law include rules regarding the proper use of patient health information, accountability for healthcare payments, the expanded use of exemptions and exceptions, and the active promotion of the provision of appropriate treatments and medical services at low cost for all residents of the United States.

The Nurse’s Role in Implementing the Affordable Care Act

In implementing the Affordable Care Act, the nurse’s role is vital in ensuring access to healthcare and services for all. They provide patients and their families access to medical services and take timely action to ensure their safety and health. Nurses can use their skills and knowledge to help people understand the law and benefit from it.

Nurses must also help patients understand and comply with the rules and policies established by the law and support them in choosing medical plans that best suit their needs (Myerson and Li 2022). They provide free consultations and inform patients of their rights under the law. Nurses must professionally assess patients’ health and provide feedback and recommendations for improving it. Therefore, nurses are essential in implementing the Affordable Care Act and helping people improve their health.
