Leadership and Communication Styles

  • I am a transactional leadership style
  • I stand for adhering to the rules
  • I have clear expectations
  • I have specific objectives
  • I value efficiency over flexibility

There are multiple reasons I consider myself to conform to a transactional leadership style. First of all, I believe that establishing a precise, well-thought set of rules, which should be followed by the collective, is crucial. Even though ability to adapt or to show initiative is significantly important, introduction of clearly determined framework should be the first step in team-building process. Second, I normally have clear and concrete expectations of necessary resources and possible goals, which is a sign of transactional leadership (Cherry, 2018). Therefore, scheduling is an inseparable part of my life routine. Finally, I think that efficiency may not always be achieved through flexibility, and in some cases excessive malleability may have negative impact on workflow. Despite the fact that modern world is extremely fast-paced and requires high adaptability, it may also be necessary to stay the course to achieve the desired goal.

Importance of Adapting Style of Communication to Interactions

  • Various interactions require various styles of communication
  • Style of communication is an instrument of effective information interchange
  • Communication styles contribute to objective accomplishment
  • Recipients may require different communication channels
  • Communication styles may have cultural significance

Adapting communication styles depending on a wide variety of aspects is crucial to achieve communication goals and maintain healthy relationships. Interactions with patients require a formalized approach with specific restrictions and behavioral norms, whereas communication with families or in some cases with coworkers may be conducted in unformal styles. The appropriate communication style may play a significant role in achieving the goal of interaction, as it may build a trust and understanding with the interlocutor. Diverse interactions may also require use of specific communication channels, including digital or face-to-face communication. Use of applicable channels may have considerable influence on communication effectiveness and reduce information loss. In some cases cultural aspects may also be relevant in the process of selecting communication style.

Benefits of Integrating the Tenets of a Servant Leadership Style

  • Servant leadership may prevent information loss
  • It may contribute to acknowledging weaknesses
  • May provide effective persuasion methods
  • Servant leadership has positive impact on planning
  • Servant leadership maintains individual development

Servant style is an effective and relatively modern leadership approach, which is significantly linked to the introduction of agile management methods. As one of the fundamental tenets of servant leadership style is listening to crew members, it may significantly reduce information loss. Showing empathy and paying attention to subordinates may encourage them to express valuable opinion and data regarding the working process. Self-awareness is another important tenet, which makes servant leadership effective (Davis, 2020). Acknowledging own weaknesses and strength and evaluating them as objectively as possible is the key to the elaboration of ways to overcome problems. Emphasizing team member’s role as a stakeholder and building a common goal is a considerable aspect of servant leadership, which represents an unconventional yet efficient way of persuasion. As already mentioned, servant leadership tenets may reduce data loss and help determine weaknesses and strength. These two consequences contribute to another principle of servant leadership style, which is foresight. Using mistakes as learning opportunities and accumulating knowledge in order to prevent similar flaws in the future is another aspect. Finally, most principles of the above-mentioned leadership style are aimed on the individual, which contributes to personal and professional development of team members.
