Leadership: Importance and Types

Importance of a leader

Some people should make some serious decisions and rule our world and, at the same time, some people accept these decisions, hoping that they will result in some benefits for them. It should be said that not always leaders, who are responsible for some important decisions, are respected by the rest of the population. That is why even right and needed solutions cannot be accepted because of the lack of trust which these persons have. Incoherent society, this problem is usually connected with the leadership qualities which a person possesses. Under these conditions, the question of leadership and the image of a leader obtains a great importance. For centuries people with strong will and good leadership qualities inspired humanity to achieve some results. That is why leaders are so important. Every organization or collective needs a leader for it to be able to evolve (Leadership Characteristics, n.d).

However, different types of leadership can influence people and organizations in different ways. For example, a trustworthy leader can be more efficient as he/she can unite people only by the power of his/her words and persuade them to work to achieve a certain result. At the same time, a leader, who cannot be trusted, has a pernicious influence on a collective and even destroys it. With this in mind, this paper is devoted to the analysis of different types of leaders whose main aim is to understand the difference between these types better.

Trustworthy leader

To begin with, it should be said that the work in a team with an untrustworthy leader should be analyzed. Resting on personal experience, it is possible to say that under these conditions the quality of the work and satisfaction obtained from it can disappear (Section 3. Styles of Leadership, n.d). The main problem is that a person, who performs the role of a leader, is not able to persuade members of his/her team and show them the necessity and utility of the actions which he/she asks them to do (Leadership traits and behaviors, n.d.). It is obvious that a leader can use his/her levers of influence and make workers do the task. However, in this case, results will be much worse. People will work without enthusiasm and they will perform the tasks just because they have to do them but not because they think that these actions can become beneficial. Additionally, being not sure about the efficiency and professionalism of their leader, workers can even ignore his/her instructions preferring to act in their way which can have dangerous aftermath.

Untrustworthy leader

Contrariwise, a trustworthy leader can change a situation for the better. It is widely known that motivation plays a great role in the life of people. Motivated students have better results while motivated workers are more efficient (Kase, 2010). That is why, a leader needs to be able to ensure his/her followers that all actions, which are planned by him/her, are the only possible variant for the development of a company or organization. Basing on personal experience, it should be said that all orders of a leader or a manager who knows what he/she is doing and, which is more important, who is trusted, are executed. Additionally, very often people even surpass expectations because they work with a high level of motivation (Motivating Your Members, n.d.). They trust their leader and know that all their actions will lead to some visible results which, in their turn, can influence the level of income of workers. That is why the trustworthy leader is usually more efficient and productive.

Comparison

Besides, it is possible to say that very often in their life people can work with both trustworthy and untrustworthy leaders and make a certain conclusion for themselves. Additionally, it is important to admit the fact that a leader, who could be trusted, is an obvious choice for the officials of the company as he/she can promote its development and becoming more beneficial. However, sometimes it can be difficult for staff to work with such a sort of leader because of their charisma. Under these conditions, people, who also have their ambitions, can feel themselves not comfortable while working with a strong leader because very often he/she suppresses everyone by his character. With this in mind, sometimes it can be difficult to work with such leaders. However, if to compare such experience with the work under the rule of an untrustworthy leader, it is possible to say that a trustworthy leader can be taken as the guaranty of success of the whole business and can teach a person.

Conclusion

Having analyzed the main aspects of different kinds of leadership, it is possible to make a certain conclusion. First of all, it should be said that a trustworthy leader is more efficient as he/she can inspire workers and make them work with the high level of motivation, though, sometimes, it can be difficult to work with him/her because of his/her strong character. However, such sort of leader is more preferable than the second one.
