Introduction
Kolkaba’s comfort theory is that he considers the comfort of the patient as the main component. This helps people alleviate their psychological state during stressful situations associated with health problems. Many researchers have applied comfort theory to show how its aspects are implemented and how effective it is.
Discussion
Thus, Afsha Awal Khan examines the theory with application to a specific case of a patient who is deeply stressed (Awal, 2017). He suffered from a coping mechanism that bothered him in stressful situations (Awal, 2017). The patient experienced the greatest shock that his value system had been violated.
At the same time, he experienced a feeling of anger and increased anxiety. However, this was considered normal as the patient went through an adaptation period. In this regard, the decision was made to use Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory. The patient was encouraged by the story and mention of interpersonal conflicts (Awal, 2017). The medical staff used the concept of confidential communication with the patient, and he gained confidence in the changes in his body. He actively participated in activities related to the care of his health. Thus, he recovered faster and was able to reduce his time in the medical facility.
Another study involved applying the theory to elderly people in need of care. Various concepts were applied during the study, including the patient’s conversations with other elderly people, respect for religion, and casual communication with the patient (Gaibor et al., 2021).
Conclusion
Elderly people said they feel better when they see proper care from staff (Gaibor et al., 2021). The comfort they are in during treatment will enable them to recover faster. Moreover, they state how important the factor of respect for religion is for them. Thus, the study points to general signs of application of the theory in the care of the elderly.
