Nursing Role: Course Reflection and Personal Assesment

Introduction

Nurses need to engage in continuous learning to acquire additional insights to develop their philosophies and improve their patients’ experiences. In this class, I have identified and considered the best competencies that match my current and future goals. Some of my outstanding knowledge and skills include the ability to offer personalized medical services, form new groups, and mentor my colleagues to transform care delivery. The major BSN Essentials that I consider pertinent to advocacy and healthcare policy include safety, evidence-based practice, collaboration, teamwork, and patient-centered care. This paper offers a personal assessment of the completed learning process and how it will guide me to expand my abilities to meet the health demands of more citizens.

Course Reflection

The studied class materials have presented concepts that will guide me in my future pursuits and activities as a practitioner. Most of these skills revolve around these ACCN Essentials: evidence-based practice, patient-centered care, teamwork, and safety. Such competencies can guide medical professionals to solve most of the challenges experienced in different healthcare settings, empower their partners, and engage in policymaking processes (Hassmiller & Reinhard, 2015). Caregivers who pursue them will transform the healthcare sector and meet the demands of more patients. The gained knowledge resonates with my philosophy of improving my competencies continuously while considering additional strategies to advocate for people’s health goals.

The ACCN Essentials equips practitioners with numerous ideas and skills that guide them to complete various roles in nursing. The first one that I have selected for this personal assessment is the ability to uphold ethical standards in all aspects of care delivery. Since safety for all patients is critical, I have understood the importance of handling data intelligently and ensuring that it does not get into the hands of unauthorized individuals. The whole concept of patient-centered care revolves around confidentiality to maximize the experiences of the beneficiaries. As a practitioner, I will share patient information with authorized individuals throughout the care delivery process (Hassmiller & Reinhard, 2015). The idea of advocacy encourages me to take ethical considerations and standards seriously when handling patient-related issues. When individuals’ rights to privacy are maintained, the chances of decreasing the level of integrity in the healthcare sector are insignificant.

From the completed class activities and exercises, I have realized that nurses need to follow outlined regulatory requirements throughout the care delivery process. Such initiatives will support the level of confidentiality and ensure that more professionals maintain or promote positive relationships with their respective patients. I have realized that it is always necessary to consider the power of the ACCN Essentials whenever focusing on the idea of ethical standards (Fallatah & Laschinger, 2016). Whenever working in a team, clinicians and nurses should promote safety, handle confidential information in a professional manner, and consider new practices that will support the delivery of patient-centered care.

The second area that has stood out for me from the completed study materials is that of communicating effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Fallatah and Laschinger (2016) identify communication as a powerful attribute that dictates the way information is relayed from one person to another. In any medical setting, professionals need to collaborate, identify emerging predicaments, and solve them accordingly. When the existing nature of communication is effective, more physicians, nurses, and practitioners will focus on the needs of their patients. The practice will dictate how different professionals can promote the ideas of collaboration and teamwork.

Within the healthcare setting, patients require an effective or personalized support network that may involve family members, colleagues in the institutions, and clinical decision-makers. With the application of the identified essentials, I have understood how I can listen attentively, ask the right questions, make relevant decisions, and collaborate with other members of my team to support positive health outcomes. The materials and articles analyzed in class have guided me to consider the importance of solving conflicts that might emerge throughout the care delivery process (Hooper, 2016). The concept of culturally competent care emerges when trying to provide high-quality and personalized medical services. Professionals involved in care delivery need to take the issue of communication seriously and consider additional technologies to improve the process. With these ideas and additional concepts, I believe that I can expand my philosophy in accordance with the ACCN Essentials selected for this class.

Conclusion

The above discussion indicates that I have acquired new skills that will support my future practice. I will always advocate for the rights of my patients, such as access to personalized services and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality. I will protect the collected data and ensure that it is only used to transform the experiences of my patients. The insights will compel me to engage in continuous learning in an attempt to acquire additional competencies that can make me a successful practitioner. I will take the idea of evidence-based practice seriously to identify emerging technologies and attributes that can result in improved care delivery and empower more patients to record positive health outcomes.
