Organizational Culture in Public Safety in Harris County

Introduction

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is a localized law enforcement agency, which serves and operates for more than four million people. It is positioned in Harris County in Texas State. There are around 2500 sworn members of the given agency, whereas approximately 1000 unsworn members are also present. It contains several divisions in its structural organization, which are patrol, executive, detective, public support, human resources, homeland security, field operations, and detentions (Services, 2019). The overall diversity of force is typical to any agency, and it serves all communities of the local state.

Primary Aims and Focuses

The general culture of the public safety organization is mostly focused on the terms of artifacts, such as reactionary and preventative approaches. Communication takes place according to the legislative standards, such as introduction and reasoning. Values and assumptions are mainly based on the common beliefs of safety and protection (About us, 2019).

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is primarily aimed at enforcing laws and regulations with professionalism and integrity (About us, 2019). The biggest impact is manifested in the fact that the given organization is eager to cooperate with local communities.

By focusing on professionalism and integrity, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office encourages its members and workers to be highly transparent and non-judgemental to avoid any misconduct (Weisburd & Braga, 2019).

Although the agency is efficient at preventing and reacting to the occurrence of breaking the law, it requires more extensive marketing and public relations. The main reason is that the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is perceived as a fearsome agency rather than being more friendly (Lewis, 2017).

Conclusion

The morale of the agency can be bolstered by including the notion of openness in the mission of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. In practical terms, it would be manifested in law enforcement being more communicative and direct with the level of risk (Services, 2019).
