Property and Identity Crimes Discussion Post

In the modern world, identity theft is prevalent for a vast number of reasons. Personal data is not easy to protect, so violations in this area often occur. The main problem is that not all site owners carefully handle data and comply with the legislation. Mainly the data is stored by unanimous third-parties that people accept without paying any attention. They enter and save the same usernames and passwords on different servers where they are stored. Not all site owners are careful about their clients’ personal data and privacy policies. In the short term, this may lead to minor consequences of moral and financial costs. For example, an offender can steal the person’s unprotected personal data, access the account, and use it for their own purposes. In the long-term perspective, the consequences can get worse and ruin a person’s life. By stealing a certain amount of data, hackers can register an entire company on the person’s name and conduct considerable financial transactions through it. However, identity theft is considered a serious felony that carries substantial penalties up to 30 years imprisonment for offenders.
