Remedies for Marijuana Addiction

Introduction

Every community has a given limit of tolerance that is accorded to the behavior and conduct of its people and this is guided by moral, spiritual and legal principles. When an individual behaves in a manner that contravenes these set guidelines he is said to be deviant because he or she has behaved beyond the tolerance limits set by the society. The most common deviant behaviors in society include theft, rumor mongering, cheating, laziness and drug addiction. This essay is aimed at outlining the various ways that an individual suffering from marijuana addiction can be treated.

Definition

Drug addiction is a situation where a person is not able to exercise control regarding the use of a drug and can not feel to be normal without using it. A person is addicted to a particular drug if the effects of the drug being used causes the person to function optimally and is rendered incapacitated in the absence of the effect of the drug (Duray 2010). Rehabilitation and treatment of drug addicts does not have a specific answer but it is a slow and gradual process marked by various stages that should be considered and planned carefully by the rehabilitators.

The most important factor to consider in the process of treating a person addicted to marijuana is to ensure that the victim is denied access to the drug. There will be no need to treat a marijuana addict if after recovering the person will still have access to the drugs. This will mean that the addiction will be occurring immediately after the victim has been treated making the entire activity to be an exercise in futility and this leads to wastage and misuse of resources.

A person suffering from marijuana addiction may be taken to rehabilitation homes to ensure he gets all the proper care and attention from qualified drug rehabilitators (Duray 2010). This will ensure that the person is given all the necessary attentions that will help him recover from marijuana addiction through the activities and lessons that will help a marijuana addict desist from using the drug once the person is out of the rehabilitation home. Guiding and counseling the victim of marijuana addict on the dangers of marijuana addiction will also help in treating them. The addict will be aware of all the dangers associated with marijuana addiction like mental instability, deprivation of self esteem and the health complications. Alternative activities should be offered to the marijuana addict in order to keep them very busy as this will help in preventing idling by such people. Such activities may include participation in communal activities that will help them earn income (Duray 2010). They may be included in the local sports teams that will enable them use most of their free time in games rather than abusing drugs.

Bad company always ruins good morals in people and therefore, any drug addict should be discouraged from associating with other drug addicts. When all drug addicts are denied contact with their fellow addicts it becomes very easy to treat their addiction. When an individual is denied association with other drug abusers he will automatically discover the need to avoid using marijuana and with time he will avoid misuse of drugs.

Conclusion

Drug addiction is a very big problem that many youths face in the society. The community should always ensure that all possible ways of preventing access to drugs are adopted in order to prevent many youths from becoming victims of drug abuse and addiction.
