Benefits
The main benefits of Six Sigma lie in its attention to detail. By eliminating errors and weaknesses, Six Sigma enables businesses to address problems at their root cause instead of merely dealing with their consequences (Biçer, 2022). Thus, the quality of business processes increases, and companies optimize their services and production processes. Financially, Six Sigma helps to reduce losses by identifying issues before they occur or repeat.
Drawbacks
At the same time, Six Sigma requires significant expenses to be effective. As every step of all business processes must be evaluated, the company requires highly trained employees, resources, time, and analysis to collect and utilize data effectively (Biçer, 2022). Therefore, small companies or firms with financial difficulties may struggle to implement Six Sigma. The processes are also complex, requiring numerous resources for employee training and ongoing learning.
Six Sigma at Dell
In the case of Dell, the company has been using Six Sigma principles for over two decades. Dell implemented Six Sigma in 2000, and the business has continued to update its use of this method in subsequent years (Gupta, 2020). The program responsible for Six Sigma is Business Process Improvement (BPI), which aims to investigate business processes at Dell (Gupta, 2020). As a result, Dell has reduced its production cycle time, lowered costs, and improved the quality of goods.

Overall, Six Sigma offers numerous benefits to companies that can afford this methodology. It enhances product quality and enables firms to examine each component of the production process. Nevertheless, it is time-consuming and expensive, making it suitable only for certain businesses. Dell is an example of a successful Six Sigma implementation, and the company continues to benefit from this method two decades after its initial use.
