Introduction
Americans are currently facing various issues, ranging from unemployment to growing crime rates. People are trying to address some issues by appealing to the government or attempting to solve them independently. Many immigrants have influenced the country and are changing their societies to avoid the same problems. This paper aims to analyze two interviews that provide insights into various aspects of societal life.
“How Black Lives Truly Matter”
The first interview features Magatte Wade, a serial entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and visionary business leader dedicated to bringing about positive change in Africa. The woman has experience living in the U.S. and confidently speaks up on the existing social issues. In addition, Wade shares her background by discussing life in Africa and the seriousness of problems such as poverty or high morbidity and mortality rates (Peterson, 2022). The interviewee makes strong arguments related to the continent’s poverty and what factors affect it. For example, the lack of workplaces contributes to the phenomenon’s development.
Her arguments seem reliable as she compares them to the problems discussed in the U.S. They are pronoun choice, sexual propaganda, and others that cannot equal the issues faced in her home country of Senegal (Peterson, 2022). She states that creating jobs is vital for the prospective development of Africa, as it severely suffers from growing poverty. In addition, she claims that racial discrimination takes place everywhere in the world, and individuals should strive towards equality as the world needs to be united.
Wade’s speech is moving and inspiring since she speaks from the bottom of her heart when addressing the problems of third-world states. Her perspective is similar to mine since individuals tend to underestimate the mentioned issues in African countries and primarily care for first-world whims. Nonetheless, there is an aspect that I would like to critique. For instance, Wade points to the fact that the U.S. deals with simple things, while this country allows her to look at the world from a different angle. The video did not challenge my perspectives but strengthened my view on the importance of helping Africa.
“Why Americans Feel So Poor”
The other video presents some speakers discussing why the American economy is downgrading, causing residents to experience many issues such as debt, unemployment, and others. A good point is made on why Americans are not paid enough: inflation ruins the market’s stability (CNBC, 2023). The other argument relates to America being in debt and people’s stress regarding money (CNBC, 2023).
The speakers rely on numbers such as the inflation level, the sum of the national debt, and others, which makes the arguments credible. Such usage of evidence appeals to me as a way of persuading the audience. However, there is a hint that “the American economy is in trouble” seems slightly exaggerated. Thus, my belief that the country’s economy is striving regardless of the impediments is challenged here.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there are miscellaneous outlooks on the states’ economies, and it isn’t easy to rely solely on the numbers presented in the media. While America may be concerned with solving “easy” problems, such as choosing pronouns, African countries may be struggling with unemployment, leading to poverty. Hence, each opinion can be considered and compared with others to view different perspectives on the same problem.
